Back to Christmas. Has anyone on this site been dressed as Santa Claus? If not, would you want to do so?

Dude, haven't you ever heard of A Christmas Carol by the legendary Charles Dickens? It's like, required literature in just about every English speaking country (including Canada), nearly the whole of Europe, probably Russia as well as Latin America, and quite possibly Africa.

On topic: Burn in Australia, what do the use for Christmas trees? Do they have pine trees in abundance out there? Or do you guys just find the nearest rock and cover it in miscellaneous dead animals and animal remains?

It's also the source material for one of the greatest Xmas movies ever, Muppets Christmas Carol :) Michael Caine is a fantastic scrooge.

Why would we use a rock when we have the bones of American tourists?

gawd ... you people and your misconceptions about Australia. We're not THAT uncivil to only use rocks. >:oP

Hardly.

Mostly. technically, my family's from Sicily, but Sicilian is not officially recognized as a language, so it's difficult to learn. But I have this dictionary from circa 1969, two volumes, that has world language translations. I make do.

You guys are lucky that you can speak a second language. I couldn't manage learning it. Now of course my kids are going to be learning as soon as they enter school.

But I digress, to those in the states, are the movies and TV series true, and do people really go all out on decorations?

Some moreso then others. 15 years ago, I remember looking out the car window with my family, and we would shout "Christmas Lights!" whenever we saw someone's decorated property. That doesn't happen quite as often these days, with the economy in it's perpetual slump. But every now and then, you'll se a house with Clark Griswold levels of holiday spirit.

Well I suppose me and my family do. Got light outlining front windows, garage door, cottage door and some lights around our various trees. I know a few places in town where people go nuts for the holidays, though since the big hit in 2007 (the other one, the not-Michael Bay one) we've had less and less, but there are three or four homes that deck their halls still.

Though if you want home decorations, come to my house. Our tree is 17 feet tall (jealous RhA?).
