As of yet, no details have been released which I know of. All i know is ILM may be handling the monster effects, and that it will be a reboot. Maybe more info will come out soon, but for now we can only speculate.

oh sorry about that, I just have one more question: is it going to be made in Japan, or USA?

I think its going to be a joint venture, with Toho supervising it.

Well, my nerd-life has finally evolved enough that it is time for me to go through its Kaiju phase :-B . Outside of the 1998 American Godzilla, and a few clips here and there of the flicks from the 90s, I haven't seen anything related to Kaiju...

So, my question is, whats a good place to start? I'm thinking Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla II and the Heise Era Gamera movies. If I jump into Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla II will I miss anything? I'm sure I would fill in the details myself, but I'd rather have the full picture...

First, Watch em' all in Japanese if you can. (Subtitles are a small price to pay for better voices and being better translated)

Second, Start from the beginning, and make sure to watch the special edition Gojira Released for the first time in America without Raymond Burr (Curse you! :-x )

Third, don't expect great acting or costuming in any of the 50's-90's Zilla flicks :BANG_HEAD: (Excluding the first one.)

Forth, Don't you dare watch them outta sequence! :-B

Fith, Yes in Godzilla Vs. Gigan the villains are giant cockroaches.

And if you try getting your mits on a G Vs. Hedora DVD...don't bother unless you want to have perminate damage to your cerebral cortex and be blinded for the rest of your life.

This was the plan all along.

A few more questions, where's a good online retailer to pick up some of the old flicks on DVD? Any good boxed sets out there? Are there any releases I should stay away from?

Also, S.H. MonsterArts line caught my eye. There'll be no turning back for me now!

Amazon is always good. Pretty much any online retailer will give you a decent price.

Most of the box sets are good quality. The best one is The Godzilla Collection. Make sure to get the 90's era boxset. (Explained below)

as for releases...stay away from the 90's era two packs. (if you can) You can't have the original Japanese voices on any of them and their quality leaves a lot to be desired.

I have all of them except Terror of Mechagodzilla and the 80's remake of Godzilla. (Not the American one)

One last thing. The American version of the Big-G is a complete reimagening of the good ol' protector lizard of Japan. (But in Godzilla: Final War...You get to see Japanese Godzilla kick American Godzilla's tail into the Sydney opera house!

I watched Gamera: Defender of the Universe and Gamera: Advent of Legion last night! I really enjoyed both! I liked the retcon of Gyaos and Gamera being created by an ancient civilization. Legion definitely seemed a cut above what little bits of Kaiju movies I'd seen before. Also, who knew that Steven Seagals daughter was in both!

I'll be watching Gamera: Revenge of Irys tonight! I just need to track down some old Godzilla DVDs now... :-?

Also very good! If it is the boxset, be sure to try the commentary by Gamera, Irys, Soldier Number 5 (the guy who always is never seen) and some other guy who at this procise moment I can't remember the name of #-o . It is plainly funny and a great special feature

Warning, clutch your chair when they are investigating the abandoned village. Just trust me on that

Is there a 90's era box set with both English and Japanese? I thought the box set that was released only had a repackage of the 2-packs?

Either way, finding the 90's movies in official Region 1 with Japanese voice will be impossible. As far as I know, none of them have been released that way. Besides, Godzilla 1985(Return of Godzilla) and Godzilla vs. Biollante are VHS only in America(if I'm wrong, please correct me!!). And Godzilla 1985 is quite Americanized, and has some scenes switched around, including editing a crutial scene. Still, it's the only way I've seen it.

However, Dark Horse Publishing did release a TPB of the Manga adaptation of Return of
Godzilla during the mid 90's that is pretty good.

Still, the 90's series is pretty good and has some continuity throughout, and the only older Godzilla you'd need to see would be the original before 85/Return of Godzilla. It ignores everything else in between.

The "Millenium" series of movies follows a similar trend: They're all stand alone sequals to the original Gojira (save for Tokyo S.O.S., which is a direct continuation from X Mechagodzilla).

I'm not sure if they're simply repackaged or new boxes

Well that's disheartening. I really don't want to have to suffer through a dub. Looks like I'll have to import them...
