I'd love to see an honest to goodness badass Mothra. Something really BADASS! No more Rainbow Mothra!

(Okay, the colors were pretty.)

They already did that. His name's Battra, and I think he's awesome.

However, I think Mothra should keep a certain amount of beauty and grace to her, because it offsets Godzilla's rage and destruction. I also really hope they keep the twin fairies, and maybe even have a hint of fantasy about Mothra, because despite being aimed at a younger audience I really enjoyed the lighthearted mystical feel of the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy(which is getting a Blu-ray release next month).

Another thing, Legendary announced their making a new King Kong movie, set to release in 2016. I know it's probably a ways off, like five or six or seven years or something, but I think this means they're finally going to remake King Kong vs. Godzilla :KREMZEEK: =P~ !!

I've never seen Rebirth of Mothra 3 :BANG_HEAD: AND it's only on Blu-ray?! :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: ARARARAARTDGTYSFJYHGSG~!!!

And they're making another King Kong?! I really hope this falls through, the Peter Jackson one was perfect.

^Yeah, as far as I know, Blu-Ray only for Rebirth of Mothra III.

As for Kong, I personally didn't like Peter Jackson's version all that much. Too long, too much action, and couldn't decide whether Kong was a fearsome monster or misunderstood animal. However, it may just be I prefer the original. I did really enjoy Jack Black as Carl Denham though.

The new film is actually called "Skull Island", and according to Wikipedia it's going to be a prequel :???: . Ok, that's different, better than a remake with the same basic plot, but I would prefer a whole new reboot/retake on the character.

I don't know if I'd like a Godzilla vs King Kong movie, personally. Godzilla is waaayyy to big to take on Kong. I didn't like the original KK vs Godzilla actually. Godzilla is a "God" and Kong is just an extra large ape.Don't get me wrong, I love both characters, but not together.

Agreed, I mean the new Godzilla is just too freaking big to be in a fair fight with any Kong, original version, corny 60s Japanese version, bad 70s version, or awesome Peter Jackson version. This new Godzilla would just stomp on them!

That's why the Peter Jackson one appealed to me most, Kong wasn't freaking gigantic, hewas freaking big, no doubt about that, but he wasn't Kaiju size class as far as I'm concerned.

I loved the original Kong and the Peter Jackson version. The cheap 60s one just wasn't right, and the 70's version wasn't any good.I love Jeff Bridges, but he couldn't save that film. I would be interested in a Son of Kong by Jackson. That'd be cool. I liked the Disney Mighty Joe Young,so that one doesn't need a third version. :-B

Specific scale has never been that important to me. Big is big and small is small. And Kong was upscaled to fight Godzilla back in '62, why not again? Can't argue with the points stated though.

Still, the reason the prospect of a new Godzilla vs. King Kong excites me(remember, I'm only speculating since Legendary is releasing Skull Island) is that the original film hasn't aged that well in certain spots. For example, even though Eiji Tsuburaya designed the Kong suit stylistically to not scare children, it really doesn't look that good. And while the Godzilla suit has a certain charm to it, those arms always looked very stiff and there's a scene where Godzilla's clapping his hands together and you can almost hear the hollow rubber. Then there's the scene where Kong is being flown in by balloons, which doesn't look believable, and several clearly blue screen shots where people are practically blue.

So while I understand the original film was an important stepping stone in the Godzilla franchise and Kaiju in general, and that 50 year old technology can't compare with the effects of today on most levels, that's the thing. These are the two biggest names in giant monsters(sorry Gamera!), and they deserve to have another go round.

Sorry, one more off topic thing! (Note to thread starter, rename this the Kaiju Discussion thread :D )

I have to admit, outside of the usual Godzilla Kaiju, I'd love to see a badass remake of Gamera. In spite of the awesome 90s films, which are some of my favorite Kaiju films of all time, I think they could do wonders with another bigass reptile!

And, I know I'm going to get roasted for this, but in light of the MMPR big-budget movie, I would love to see a big screen version of Ultraman.

I didn't mean to really derail the thread, but since it's still in the realm of Kaiju...

It was announced in March that there is a new Gamera in production, but I don't know anything beyond that. Also, ever seen Gamera the Brave? It's not as dark as the 90's films, but I really, really enjoyed it. Brave was a fresh take on the character and franchise, and would have been an excellent start to a new series if they'd continued making them.

Even though Gamera isn't as prolific as Godzilla, I almost prefer Gamera on a certain level because A. he's a turtle, and turtles are awesome, and B. Gamera's a hero, the Guardian of the Universe in the 90's, and he's a monster you can legitimately root for.

Also, I'd certainly be up for a Hollywood take on Ultraman. The concept and premise is simple enough to adapt into a two hour or even hour and a half movie, and marketed right could do well for both kids and adults.

Yeah, I caught Gamera the Brave and while I thought it was really good, I liked the trilogy more. (Though the baby gamera flying was absolutely brilliant)

Yeah, I mean Ultraman has incredible potential for the US audience, it's the perfect blend of the spandex superhero genre (Power Rangers, Kamen Rider ect.) and Kaiju flicks! (Godzilla, Gamera ect.)

Just as long as Michael Bay doesn't have anything to do with anything they'll be movie's to remember. (Face it, any female Ultras will have huge- you know what? Nevermind.)

Only just noticed this thread, hope it's okay for me to pop in ;)

On the subject of a possible Kong vs Godzilla (though it wouldn't be high on my list of kajiu movies, give me Gigan) wouldn't the difficulty be in deciding on who wins? Unless of course they just threw Kong into a remake of Destroy All Monsters along with Gihdora, Rodan and big G himself. Though the lack of Angilus saddens me.

Anguirus is a sure loss. I know he really didn't do much as a Kaiju, he had no breath/ranged attack, nor did he really bring much to the table in terms of combat efficiency, but I thought he rounded out in the top four of the Godzilla "good" Kaiju (Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and Anguirus)

There was other good kajiu that popped up from time to time like king Cesar from the first Godzilla v mechagodzilla and Jet Jagur (bet that kid was stoked to win that contest) I know they were mainly one offs but maybe they could be more with a second chance.

Jet Jaguar was creepy as **** and its relationship with that child in Godzilla vs Megalon was unhealthy at best.

Jet Jaguar was the closest thing we had to a Ultraman Godzilla cross over! He isn't the greatest Kaiju mecha mind you, but he's not really all that-

Forget everything I just said.

Probably a cry for help from one of the developers, still clearly haunted by childhood memories of their over friendly neighbour and his wandering hands.
