Had to re install Windows this morning.....

As some of you may know, I've only just started reappearing on Seibertron a couple weeks back.

The main reason for this was that my main PC had been packed up in late 2013 when me, my wife and kid, moved into our new house. At that time the plan was to set up my office in the basement in the weeks that followed.

Long story short, I am setting up said office this week.

Yesterday i started reassembling my desk and computer, windows wasn't happy, started downloading updates, updates failed, computer tried to restart at a bad time, bootmgr missing..... and after 12 hours of trying to get things going again it appears that my c-drive just was not happy. I do have the means to attempt recovery but it was time to swap it out anyways, and any files of concern have been saved to an external drive long ago.

So my old empty d-drive is now my c, and I am looking at a mostly blank slate beyond the basic Windows 7 Ultimate. (virus protection is being applied as we speak), and Chrome in there as I just don't use IE.

But any thing else that could be useful, I haven't even given thought to over the past few years, so I have a good starting point to try some newer options. Should I reinstall winamp? what media players work well and are worth looking at? If any of you have decent recommendations, let me know.

Thx.

Is Winamp available again? When I was setting up my new work computer (which I still haven't finished) Winamp had been sold and wasn't available for download. I opted for AIMP which is pretty good.

I also recommend VLC Media Player, it comes with all the important Codecs unlike Windows Media Player which requires extra downloads.

cnet still have download links for winamp, with new comments about 2 months old.

worst case I may be able to strip it off my old laptop.

go to the site http://www.ninite.com. It'll give you pretty much every neat little piece of freeware you'd like in one simple installer.

Hint: it's got Winamp ;)
