Meanwhile, back on topic, I got my SHF Ryuranger in the mail today and immediately put him on the "guys i hope to cosplay (and Raia)" shelf.

What's that Agito OOO Medal doing there?

It was a better deal to buy 2 than 1 from the vendor (I got them at a con) so I picked up Kuuga's brother from another mother. Interestingly, the Agito medal has a metal rim while Kuuga's is plastic, among other differences. I'm not too familiar with the distribution of O-medals but I suspect Agito is DX while Kuuga is Gashapon or something like that.

And now for something different, unusual, but still Power Rangers/Super Sentai-related

South Korea has been dubbing Super Sentai series, under Power Rangers brand, like Ressha Sentai ToQger as Power Rangers Train Force. Well, the dub of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger called Power Rangers Dino Force (not to be confused with our Dino Charge) apparently has been such a hit, a 12-episode sequel series is being produced especially for South Korea! It will be called Power Rangers Dino Force Brave, and will feature slightly different outfits, new Zord designs and more:

Power Rangers Dino Force Brave announced

How about that?

Wow! This is like Korea's own Zyu2, but as a full blown 12-episode series instead of just extra footage, isn't it?

All new footage, with Korean actors. I wonder how much Toei will be involved in this, if it's limited to the suited and mech battles or what.

It does.

They've reassigned all the ancillary zords. So:
Red is still tyrannosaurus
Black is now stegosaurus (was parasaurolophus)
Blue is now triceratops (was stegosaurus)
Green is now parasaurolophus (was velociraptor)
Pink is now velociraptor (was triceratops)
Gold is still pteranadon
We don't know if violet is appearing in this, but Bragigas is purple instead of silver

Here is some info on the casting, and some broadcast information. The first two will air on April 1, the next two on April 8, and then they'll air one episode a week starting on the 15th until it concludes on June 3, unless they air the final two episodes together on May 27.

Honestly, for my part, I'm not liking this so far. The toys look like weird knockoffs, being predominantly white with their focus color being accented, and the odd weapons slapped onto their heads. I was intrigued by the new suits when they leaked, but now that I know they've reassigned the zords, the fact that they tried to mask the original motif of the helmets with paint details instead of just switching the helmets and repainting them just seems lazy. Like, why paint triceratops horns on the blue (stegosaurus) helmet instead of just painting the pink helmet blue? If they had enough budget for new spandex, new robot suits, and 12 episodes of filming, surely they could have spared some money to do a number on the helmets. I'll watch it if it makes its way online but unlike pretty much everybody else on my Facebook feed, I'm not instantly in love with this.

EDIT: Here is a video showing some clips of the show. We seem to have a new transformation dance, and Gold is recruited by the enemies. The locations used seem to be Toei's favorite warehouse, quarry, and other locations, and that combined with the new monster suits looking very much in line with the Kyoryuger designs makes me think this was filmed in Japan with Plex involved in the suit design. Very interesting.

In Kyuranger news, episode 3 aired this week and we were introduced to our lovable (?) rogue, Stinger, AKA Sasori Orange. As promised by his bio he not only did NOT hit it off with the team right away (currently red, blue, black, green, yellow, gold, and silver), he outright attacked them. He already has his Seiza Blaster and Kyutama, it's currently unknown where he got them. However, when Jark Matter attacked, he fought them as well. It's revealed in a flashback that he killed Champ's builder and mentor, for which Champ holds a grudge. Stinger was approached by Jark Matter and fought them off as well for interfering in his bout with the Kyurangers, but was later shown colluding with Eridron at the end of the episode. When the ranger lineup was shown at the end, his silhouette was filled in, but then immediately darkened to represent his displacement from the rest of the team. He deployed his Sasori Voyager as well during the episode, but only to fight Oushi Voyager, and did not combine with Kyurenoh.
We were also introduced to the team's mentor and future Ryu Commander, Xiao Longbao. He's.... quirky. He doesn't seem to take anything seriously, and several times throughout the episode he would seem to be contemplating a serious issue only for Raptor to query him and he was actually just trying to decide on his catchphrase or something. However, he also seems to know more than he lets on. After Stinger poisoned everybody and they retreated to the Orion, Xiao seems to be able to cure them while Lucky and Champ return to the planet surface. He also gave the team a ton of non-transformation Kyutamas, with Shishi Red trying out the Futago (Gemini) Kyutama and creating a clone of himself during battle. And of course he already has his staff, the Ryutseuder. So he may be playing the fool but he's committed to the cause.

Next week is a Raptor 283 focus episode, and she finally earns her Kyutama and becomes Washi Pink. Based on episode titles, Stinger will finally join the team properly in episode 5. After that... we'll see where it takes us!

Why so surprised? Korea doesn't have a big market for toku. I can only find a few original shows at a cursory search, it's mostly just cheaper animated productions with good toys (Biklonz and whatnot), and imports of Japanese toku shows and merch like Sentai. For one to get a second season like this with any sort of original merchandise, even just retools, is pretty wild. No pun intended.

Also, here's some action footage from the show. I added it to my previous post.

I can confirm that Blikonz is a great toyline. And I dont know, I guess I am surprised since BOA had original zords, but yeah your right its a smaller market. I am impressed that they are using the japanese molds instead of the cheaper american ones.

I will be keeping a lookout, this might be an inexpensive way to get the BOJ molds.

Korea has always done more business with Japan rather than the US, so the toys have always been the Japanese molds with new names at times. Bandai of America designs new molds due to price point concerns, and due to the electronics. Even locally in Japan, Bandai Zords are not cheap!

The "Power Rangers" title is used because up to Wild Force, all series were dubbed from the Power Rangers adaptations. Since then, they use the Super Sentai originals. Shinkenger however was skipped due to Japanese connotations (Japanese writing and such are edited out) and replaced with a straight dub of Gaoranger (so in a sense Korea got Wild Force twice).

Images of the press conference are up, with toy images! All retools of BoJ molds, with some surprising additions:

Power Ranger Dino Force Brave blog entry.

First off, the episodes will be 12-15 mins in length, and headed by Koichi Sakamoto.

The toys are named:

Brave Tyranno King: Kyoryuzin retool, with:
- Cannontyra
- Stegochop
- Forkcera
Brave Ptera King: Pteraiden-oh redeco
Brave Giganto Brachio King: Giganto Bragi-oh redeco

Parasaizer: Parasagun retool, and quite a radical one
Raptoraxe: Zakutor retool

Update on my long quest through Netflix:

Mystic Force was a lot better than I had expected. It had its flaws, but overall the writing and acting was actually pretty good. Plus I love the Magiranger suits, they might be some of my favorite suit designs in the franchise.

Operation Overdrive, so far, is not better than I expected. So far it is exactly as I expected, and I didn't expect very good things. In particular, I keep thinking three specific words from History of Power Rangers: "Shut up, Dax!"

Still looking forward to Jungle Fury, a series that I seem to be incapable of retaining information on.

I'm probably one of the few who doesn't hate Operation Overdrive. In fact, I sometimes find myself preferring it over most of the Neo-Saban Era's offerings. It's not good, no, but does have its merits here and there, but which mostly come during its latter half.

How far are you into Operation Overdrive?

Just finished "Once a Ranger." Johnny Yong Bosch makes everything better, at the very least. And I like how they promoted Bridge to SPD Red just so they could use him instead of Jack or Sky, because Bridge was consistently delightful.

Well as long as it isn't some massive crazy twist like, I don't know, Mack turns out to be some kind of robot. I don't know that my heart could take such a shocking swerve.

I did mention I had watched History of Power Rangers, you know.
