I saw this topic on another forum which turned into a pretty interesting thread.

List the name of your city or town, and anything famous about it.

I am from Wilmington, NC, and.....

These movies (among many others and TV shows) were filmed here:

Some people that were born here include Charley Daniels, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Trot Nixon.

And...

Wasn't born here, but grew up here.

So what's up with your town?

Nothing exciting ever happens in Livonia. Well, there was Jeff Daniels' nephew's baptism (seriously, it was front page in the local paper). I am, however, about 15 minutes from downtown Detroit and the real star of the Transformers movie, the Fort Street sign!

For some reason in the HBO First Look at Transformers they never mention its Detroit and refer to it as L.A.

I know its supposed to be L.A but they could say it was Detriot its only the making of....

Jackson Michigan

Jeff Daniels filmed some of his movie Super Sucker there.

Also, Amy Jo Johnson apparently has a house near there, she's seen going to the movies every once in awhile.

If I were you, I'd hook up with her immediately. She's every nerd's fantasy.

I'm from just right between the towns of Lurganand Portadown. They're pretty rough towns for the wrong types of people, so much so that each has a Wikipedia article on killing commited there during the Troubles. Which is neat. That aside, Lurgan was the birthplace of footballer Neil Lennon, while Portadown is home to teevee's Gloria Hunniford. Which is less neat.

I'm from Toledo, Ohio aka the Glass City.

We not only have the same name as Toledo, Spain, but are the only two international sister cities.

We have the Mud Hens (baseball team, which is very huge for all of the residents), the Museum of Art, the Zoo, half an hour to an hour drive to Cedar Point, and Jamie Farr.

Spencer, WI is not yet famous, but it will be known throughout the world soon enough, as the home of Fender Bender. :P

Seriously, nobody is from here, nothing is here, and nobody worth knowing will emerge from here (other than I that is). 8)

Oh, and Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees used to live in my town, and even went to the same high school that I went to.

If I remember right, my sister knew his sister.

You could be his dirty little Lopan. Go ahead JP, take him down. Take him down to Chinatown.

On a related note, some of the actors I have met in town are:

Anthony Hopkins
Woody Harrelson (cool dude)
Katy Holmes (not as good looking in person)
Chris Klein (Oz from American Pie - cool dude)
Pat Hingle (Commissioner Gordon from the Batman movies)
Linda Lovelace (Alice from the tv show Mel's Diner)
Andy Griffith (what a prick he is, let me tell ya)
Kim Basinger

Also, Micheal Jordan's dad was murdered right outside of Wilmington, and Brandon Lee died here while filming The Crow.

Steve Buscemi was stabbed in the throat at a local bar downtown and Vince Vaughn got arrested while on a film shoot. Good times! Here's the article:

Southern California, too many things are films nearby there are signs everywhere indicating where filming is taking place. Universal isn't far and some of Transformers was filmed there. Things I've personally seem... ummm, the set to Cat in the Hat... well actually I don't remember much because it's so normal. My old high school was in a TV movie starring Alyssa Milano... Oh yeah, an episode of Dirty Jobs was in my city, one where Mike worked on concrete in a gas station.

Homer Jay's post reminded me that Toledo, Oh also is the birthplace of Katie Holmes.

In fact, the oldest daughter of a family friend was good friends with her in High School and attended TomKat's wedding.

Ottawa, Ontario here. Not much at all. But here's what I can scrounge together:

Birthplace of Tom Green (in fact, he went to my high school, but we were only there at the same time for a year)

Tom Cruise and Bryan Adams also went to my high school, but obviously years before me. In fact, I had Bryan Adams' The Merchant of Venice book... or at least someone who signed his name in it.

Matthew Perry, Belly, Sarah Chalke (from Scrubs), Dan Aykyroyd, Steve Yzerman Alex Trebek, Sandra Oh, and Peter Jennings, are all from here. But none of them are here now.

They filmed such bombs as Alien Resurrection and Batman and Robin here, any fourth movie of a series. Also they filmed River Rats here, which no one has probably heard of, but I caught it on a movie channel once and thought it was pretty good.

We're also home to the longest skating rink in the world, the Rideau Canal.
