Sixshot alternate forms

Hey hey, Cyber-Kun here. I don't think I've properly introduced myself (even though I have like, 80 posts)
I'm more of a Beast Wars fanatic, but I'm learning more and more of Generation One. I've picked up all the comic books by Dreamwave and now IDW, including the Spotlight TPB
After reading the Sixshot one (who I find to be a very interesting character), I'm confused about his transformation. I've never seen the Re-Birth episodes or Headmasters series, so I need some clarification. Does he transform into different pieces? Or just six alternative forms? Images I've seen of him from the show and the comic show him in multiple forms at once. Is this just artistic impression, or does he separate into different pieces when he transforms?
Sorry if this seems silly, but its been driving me up the wall.
Thanks

Six alternate forms, all one character. Like Astrotrain on speed.

Thanks. That's what I hoped, just wanted some re-enforcement.

There's an episode where his six forms somehow meet or something, however he is one robot who can transform into six things.

the japanese series headmasters did alot of weird ****; but i beleive it's a ruse in this case Sixshot(being the ninja consultant for the decepticons) creates 5 body doubles to throw off the bots as to which one's the real him.
