A full report on the first look at Christopher Nolan’s Batman sequel including the Joker, the Batpod and…Two Face?

The capacity crowd at Wizard World Chicago was treated to the first look at “The Dark Knight” – the much anticipated sequel to fan favorite “Batman Begins.” With actors Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart on hand along with Nolan and screenwriters Jonah Nolan and David Goyer, DC Publisher Paul Levitz led the crowd through a spirited and secretive Q&A before getting to a sneak peek at the Dark Knight’s most recent on-screen battle with his arch nemesis, The Joker.

Fans were only allowed to see it once, and while it might be some time before the footage will be released to theaters across America, Wizard Universe was on hand to witness the action and give a full report.

The footage started with a silhouette of a dark figure in front of one of Batman’s armored vehicles before quickly cutting to Bruce Wayne and Alfred delivering the brief lines heard in the “Dark Knight” teaser trailer.

“Some people just want to watch the world burn,” advises Alfred before the camera jumps to Batman in action on the Batpod, the new iteration of his motorcycle.

The action built up as the Joker was seen in full for the first time with a mess of white face, smeared red lipstick and sweaty, straggly green hair. Apparently, the clown prince of crime gets arrested at one point in the film, as the montage presented Jim Gordon (complete in SWAT gear) at the Joker’s booking, saying, "no prints, no ID, custom clothes, no tags.” The clown smiles with what appears to be blood over his face from the inside of an interrogation room.

Checking back in with Bruce Wayne, the billionaire playboy has a brief scene with Eckhart’s Harvey Dent where he says “Rachel’s told me everything about you.”

“I truly hope not,” responds Wayne.

The footage sped up at that point into an intense montage of action, featuring the following clips:

- The new batsuit rising up from a trap door in the ground and held in a chain metal case.

- Rachel Dawes (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) close to an unidentified man either kissing him or being threatened by him as the camera rotates around them.

- The Joker and Batman battling in close quarters (possibly a hospital room). Batman throws Joker over a table and crashing into the ground while the clown smiles at him. It should be noted that the Joker was done up in his signature purple suit.

- Plenty of big, bold Batmobile action including a shot where the tank-like car drives through a wall of flame. In fact, flames were pretty much everywhere in the footage as it appears Joker does actually make the world burn.

- There is also a shot of a somewhat grim-faced Joker walking across a city street mercilessly firing a machine gun as well as a television close-up of the Joker laughing hysterically.

- Two major additions to the speculation that Two Face will appear in the film came in the form of a single shot of a spinning 50 cent piece and the final image: after the action montage has slowed down, the camera cuts to a bartender looking at Harvey Dent, whose only onscreen presence is his left shoulder and a bit of a reddish-purple scarred neck. “Dent! I thought you were dead!” the man gasps, to which Harvey replies, “Half.”

If this was posted sorry I looked and found nothing

This is going to be great. One thing I wonder though- is Two-Face going to be introduced but saved for a third film and keep the spotlight mainly on The Joker for this one or is this going to be Joker and Two Face having prominent roles with a semblance of finality for both characters by the end of this film?

This is what I think happens:

1. The Joker is the cause of Two-Face. Harvey is splashed with acid, and buckles under the weight of all the stress he's faced since the League of Shadows attacked Gotham. Thus creates his dual-personality.

2. Dent blames Bruce for what happened. He interrogates Rachel Dawes, and, in true comic movie fashion, finds out Batman's identity. (Think about it, how many superhero movies go WITHOUT the villain figuring/finding out who the hero is? I think only the Superman movies keep the villain oblivious)

3. This leads to a three-way showdown between Batman, the Joker, and Two-Face. This may be wishful thinking, but it could possibly be at Arkham Asylum.

I was thinking the same thing

But I think this movie ends similiar to the first one

In the first we see Gorden giving Bats a playing card with a Joker in this we may see the ending with Dent at the bar

Joker is awesome! I love the updated style to Batman... all the villains are very simple, with only minimal make-up, and no "dress-up" villains like the Goblin in Spiderman 1. Remember Scarecrow in Batman Begins? He was a prefect rendition of the character, and he was just some guy with a burlap sack on his head...

All the Ledger-doubters will change their collective minds when they see him in action. I'm sure of it.

This rocks so hard, it hurts.

I will not only be there opening day, I will be sitting there with the jitters from all of the excitement and I'll let it rush me like a wave of awesome sauce.

And can I assume you'll be decked out in a homemade Batsuit?

Am I the only one that thinks the costume this time around for Batman looks awkward? His head looks huge, and like an afterthought. Looks like they cut Bale's head off and added a few inches of neck or something. The extra sculpting on the rest of the suit is too exaggerated looking. Can't pinpoint it, but the new suit doesn't look that hot.

Still can't stand Christian Bale as Batman...or indeed at all.
Heath Ledger looks like something that got thrown out of a dodgy nightclub at 4am. Actually no, they look more trouble.
Scarecrow was as frightenting as a damp teatowel, might have to downgrade the Joker to a dishcloth.
I'll pass.

With the exception of your Bale comment, I agree with you 100 percent about the other baddies.

But I want too see it. I just watched Begins the other night and it's still one of the best movies i've ever seen.

I've "seen" the teaser trailer for this movie (well, saw the bat man symbol & heard voices basically now THAT is a teaser trailer, lemme tell ya) You can HEAR the joker in it! You can't even hardly tell its Heath Ledger. He is a fantastic actor & I think he will do a terrific job. I'm not much of a Batman fan, BUT I must say, I'm lookin forward to this movie...Just because of Heath Ledger. (Yep, I'm rootin for Joker haha!) So yea, I can't wait till this one comes out. It looks interesting. And from those pics (a friend of mine already sent them to me for photoshopping purposes lol), It seems the look of the Joker, holds true as it did in the comic & cartoon series. I'm very interested in it. So here's hoping I don't get shot, GO JOKER!
