The DeLorean is making a comeback in 2008

Image

Good news for wealthy, impractical Back to the Future fans: the DeLorean is making a comeback. With manufacturing beginning at the end of this year, the DeLorean should be for sale in the first quarter of next year for a projected price of $57,500.

As cool as this is, you've gotta wonder if there's any way buying a new DeLorean could not be disappointing. After all, there's no flux capacitor, no Mr. Fusion, and no ability to fly. It's just a car from a sweet movie that's just as impractical as it was 25 years ago. But hey, you can't help loving some things, can you? We'll see if we suddenly see an influx of DeLoreans on the road come next summer. — Adam Frucci

Ah, one of Ireland's finest exports. And the only car ever made here. Doesn't say if they're still going to be made here, though.

Don't think so. Unless they start manufacturing new parts, maybe, and I doubt even then it would be made there.

If I had the money, believe you me that I would definitely buy one of these. I have NEVER seen one on the road and would be the envy of everyone and their momma if I had one. When I'm rich one day...

I saw one once, but it was in a car show. No, I didn't mean to go to a car show, it was on in the middle of town when I was trying to find some beer.

There's one here in the Tampa bay area. I've been next to it a few times. However, I have never seen it leave fire wheel marks behind it.

You WJ35 is that your car?

Someone has a DeLorean around the corner from my house.
I wonder what the MPG is on the new models?

Yeah I saw that tosser Patrick Kielty in his one going through Dublin one day, not a bad looking car but mechanically its garbage.

Now if only I could see one of these in the flesh(and what Wheeljack should have been for the Alt or in the IDW comics). I give you the Fenomenom Stratos.

If you read my post I said it isn't a bad looking car but isn't very good mechanically.

My local paper says it's made in Humble, TX. Base price will be $57,500.

This reminds me of the group (who I forgotten their name) who would build real life Mach 5's for $73,000

This is what a real life version looks like

The DeLorean would be awesome, however, I've seen the suckers. Back in Jackson, MI some guy owned a couple. The only time I ever saw them was at the mechanics, or on the road driving to the mechanics.

I love the car, but, it's a money pit.

I read an article a while ago that said there were a bunch of incomplete Delorean's that were in storage in Texas that got shipped there from Ireland after the company fell apart. That's probably where a lot of the cars are going to come from. With the car body being mostly stainless steel, even though they're twenty year old parts, the parts being stored there are probably in pretty good shape. Hopefully they come with updated drivetrains...

Odd that it'll come back, even for a short while, after being such a flop and it's creator being such an underhanded bastard. Of course, he's dead now, so maybe the stigma died with him. :???:

Edit: Though Delorean will always have the fame of the Pontiac GTO attached to his name, the only good thing he may have ever done.

I doubt that they are going to put a 6.0 V8 into a Delorean, it would never fit. I think the original engine was a small V-6 (just checked Wikipedia, it was a Renault 2.8 V-6).
