Huh, apparently it is actually a "colossal" squid, which is actually bigger than a "giant" squid.

That thing is huge. They have been trying to catch one of those for a while. Should be interesting to see what they find out after studying the thing.

I just read about this in the newspaper but the article was teensy and there wasn't a picture of the squid. Thanks for linking to something with a little more detail!

The kraken was a squid. Just not nearly as large as the ancient stories exaggerated it to be.

Now that is really cool, thanks for posting that. I was jsut watching a program on this on Discovery not too long ago (though I think it was Fiant Squid). Some japanese scientist and devoted his life in trying to find them and then he finally got the first images of one in the wild. Then this comes out...pretty cool stuff...and man o man is that sucker huge.
