"Write protect"!? Aarrgh!

Recently I synchronized a collection of music onto my Coby mp3 player, but then had to delete the songs from the machine. However, now I can't delete the folders because it says they are "write protected." Right now they are in there, taking up space and being a general nuisance. Plus the song files are on my computer, but I can't copy-paste them back onto my player! I was able to before, but for some reason it won't let me do it again.
Can anybody tell me how to un-write protect these files so I can do what I have to do with them!?
