I've got a somewhat interesting problem

Hey guys, I was encourged to post more here so here goes. I've got a problem and I'm not exactly sure how to handle it. I'm not very good handling problems so maybe someone can help me.

I have long hair and someone told me I should get it cut short. In fact, they're being more than insistant. They say "it's up to you to tell me how you want me to cut your hair." I never wanted to have my hair cut in the first place and this person keeps insisting that this is my problem to figure out and not his. I tried to explain to this person that he has the situation backwards, but he just doesn't seem to get it.

How can I tell this person that if he wants me to cut my hair short, it's up to him to convince me that it's a good idea, not the other way around?

Add razor blades to the ends and swing your head until you can cut people to pieces. I don't believe there would be any argument on his behalf in that situation.

Well is this person a friend, or someone not real close like a informal/formal acquaintance? The reason being is this can help us kind of figure out how much force you would need to exert in your explination. Your situation is quite odd as this person is so insistant on what they want.

I haven't had a proper haircut in almost 7 years.

I was living at home for over a year in the end of 2005 and all of 2006, and I never heard the end of it: "It's time to do something about your hair. It's time. It's time. It's time." Endless style criticism. Endless analyzing of why I can't pull it off.

Then I move out and I'm going to school and out of the clear blue sky, one of my teachers (who was pretty hot too) compliments me on it and asks why I don't wear it down.

In other words, to hell what this person thinks.

My Grammy's always telling me to cut mine. It "just lays" on my shoulders, etc. I cut it barely below my shoulders a few months ago and it's already halfway down my back again. I prefer short hair on guys but it's a personal thing. If you are comfortable with your long hair, then make that known, and be firm in what you want. It's your damn hair!

It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks about your hair, it's what you think.

Cut your hair you crazy hippie!!!

Seriously, though, it's your hair. Unless it's severely damaging your life, I say do what you want with it and tell that guy to stay out of your business. Either that, or pick something about him that you know he wouldn't want to change and just constantly hound him to change it untill he undetstands how you feel about it.

Shave your head, tell him he made you feel so bad about your hair and yourself that it was the only thing you knew to do. Hopefully a guilt trip ensues. :-P

I'd tell him to STFU, and work my way up from there.

I had long hair. I had it down to my shoulder blades about a year ago, then cut it. People joked that I looked "Too butch," and that it was better long. And now it's back down to my shoulder blades.

Definitely tell him to **** off.

Just tell him to go listen to George Thoroughgoods (that is seriously spelt wrong) "Get a haircut and get a real job".

tell him to listen to Youth Gone Wild by Skid Row :P

Anyway, what if this is an employer?

Telling him to f*ck off might cost him a job.

and for a mod you certainly don't have a lot of posts :P

Transtopia dude. Just means you have to wait a little bit longer for your shot at power. :P

The popular trend seems to be telling the person to go **** themselves.

This would work. Tell them "**** you, I'm not getting my hair cut until I feel that I need a haircut."

Also, think about having your hair long for the winter, cut it short for the summer, much better ventilation.

How'd you know I wanted to take over?

But I pretty much agree with everyone here.

When people tell me to cut my hair I tell them to go play in traffic.

Luckily, I haven't encountered a job issue with my hair.

Everyone told me for years to cut my hair (it was a little longer than shoulder length) and I kept refusing. Then I needed to get a job. I cut the hair, kept it short while job hunting, and haven't gotten a haircut since. I hope to have it long again by the next BotCon.

Don't cut it unless you absolutely want to!

All I have to add is; Don't cut your hair for a girl. Mistake number 1 :P

I like my hair long to, if I have it short (damn mum wins again) I look like a NeoNazi!
But I have to cut it sometimes, it dosn't grow down, but the longer it gets the curlier it becomes leting me look like a clown (with dark scary hair and a scary face).

Because everybody aspires to be Neko.
Especially when you look at the alternative in Fender Bender. :P

You'll be balding soon enough. :P

Enjoy the hair while you can or until you get a job.

(not to be insulting, but most professional jobs at the entry level won't stand for long hair...)

At that point I'd go to Human Resources and file a complaint of harassment.

If it was a friend or family, I'd tell them to shove off.

I had long hair for a few years, but I have fine hair and it always came out of my ponytail. Also, as my hair thinned I decided that is was time for the long hair to come to an end. I now wear a Fauxhawk, however, I'm thinking about taking it to a full Mohawk soon. I just have a lumpy head.

Yeah, when I cut mine it was longer than 9" and it was given to kids in need. They make wigs or something like it for bald kids with Lukemia or whatever.

children in need is an annual british charity appeal done by the BBC, they donate the money raised to multiple children's charity organisation, i was sponsored by my freshman year to lose the locks, i could say no...

My father-in-law donates his hair when it gets long enough - gives him a 'socially acceptable' excuse for growing out, and I think it keeps his hair healthier to cut it down once and a while.
