I looked and I looked, and I finally found out(sorta) when they'll be out.

Steve Jobs will release the laptops at just about the same time when the cash flow from the other Mac products starts to slow and he's reminded of the empty soulless shell he is.

My bro is more in the loop than me, but he says there should be a new Mac Book Pro before the holidays.

I told my wife I'd get her a laptop for graduation and I hope the new ones are out before Dec 7th. I would hate to get one only to have a new model come out a few weeks later.

You need an Apple for school, or you need a laptop for school? Most of what I've heard over the years says that Apple isn't all it's cracked up to be. They're pretty little boxes, but they're not as great inside. Though I haven't looked into it lately... I'm just saying. Do some research before making a purchase ;)

Amen to that man. You're paying out the ass for a logo and a different operating system. Macs remind me of those Alienware PC's. Not much substance but people flock to them because they look uber cool and trendy.

yea i need one for school.... im using programs such as photoshop, after effects, maya.... and doing a lot of digital painting and motion graphics.... and macs are pretty good at handling this stuff. i already have a power pc g5, but im looking to get an intel based mac/laptop so i can work both at home and at school and wherever, for more convenience mostly.

Wait. Please keep in mind that I haven't been keeping up on the latest in computers... but, an Intel based Mac? I think I heard a little about this. Why not just buy a PC? Do all of those programs run on a PC? Well, I know Photoshop can. I just wonder about the validity of the claim that the programs run better on a Mac. But then I question everything.

It's funny, I'm posting at another forum about how I almost bought an iPod but chose another brand of mp3 player instead.

Muffin, I remember seeing ads for those Alienware computers. I built my first two computers. I just haven't kept up with the latest for about six years now! Worst thing is I need an complete upgrade so bad, but don't know where to start. I just know I'm going with Serial ATA for my drives, including a DVD burner. And a dual-core processor. I guess I should research motherboards next... do they still use SD-RAM?

Would it help you if I said I ran After Effects, PS CS2, Solidworks, Rhino3D and 3DS Max on a 2.8 GHZ PC with 1GB of RAM and a Radeon 9800Pro? As in you can run that stuff well on a system that costs $600 now.

Yeah SD-RAM is still the standard. High end stuff now is 6400 I beileve. It's what I put in mine. Also have an Intel Quad Core 2.4ghz CPU. Good stuff.

yea, im sure you do run those programs well on a pc, some of my friends at school use pcs to use those programs as well. but i already run those programs on a iMac g5, so i dont need a pc or desktop, but thanks for the info anyway. but like i said, what i need is a laptop so i can work anywhere, whether it be at school home, at a friends house, at work, or wherever. im not that much of a computer person, so if you know of a pc laptop that can run multiple programs, run ps cs3, maya, after effects, and so on with out any lag, which is also cheaper than a macbook, then by all means let me know. but for the mean time, i only of a macbook pro. however, i dont want to buy one just yet cause i know they might be releasing one sooner or later. and if you know of any info on this as well, please let me know.... which was the whole reason for this thread in the first place. thanks.

I have a Mac G4. I just upgrade the OS whenever I feel like it. I didn't buy it for looks, I bought it because I wanted a computer to keep and not have to by a new one for at least 10 years. 4 yrs on and I'm going strong.

I like the interface better than PC's. I use a PC's at work and all the time I'm thinking, it would be easier on a Mac.

However, I grew up on Commodore 64 and moved to Macs when they came to my elm school.

I love my Mac and most of my family has converted.

However, they are expensive.
