I just read this and didn't know if anyone else here had heard about it:

TORONTO, Sep 7, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Hollywood actor Tobey Maguire, who has played Spider-Man in three big-screen adventures, may star in the new "Robotech" sci-fi franchise.

Warner Bros. Pictures recently secured the rights to the 1980s anime classic about giant robots and alien invasions.

Maguire said he planned to produce an upcoming film version of the show through his Maguire Entertainment production company. He is also considering playing the lead, the Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said. "There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."

There has been a surge of interest in robot flicks since "Transformers" was declared a blockbuster this summer.

Last month, Regency picked up the rights to another 1980s anime series, "Voltron,"

the Hollywood Reporter said.

Yeah, it's been talked about on the last couple pages of the Macross/Robotech thread.

I said it there, so I'll say it here as well.

Tobey just doesn't seem squirrelly enough to be Rick Hunter, maybe if he had none of the muscle he got from the Spider-man movies.

And, he really should stop playing teenagers, I mean, he's 32.

That's Hollywood for you, remember Beverly Hills 90210? A number of the cast were in their 20's playing high school freshmen and sophomores at the start. LOL

A live-action Robotech movie? I've never watched any of the shows, but I loved Battlecry for the NGC, and I got 1 of the 6" figures. So I'll be keep my eye on this. And I really think Toby Maguire should hang up his web shooters and give someone else a swing at the role. But I just don't know if this is the best way to go. It's certainly alot better than Seabiscuit. Man, what a stupid movie! Maybe he should try to get a part in Oceans 15¾ (or whatever the next number is). You know, a nice comedy with some action in it.

What I would give to see a VF-1S on the big screen. Though I have no clue as to the storyline outside of jet fighters that turn into robots.

20 to 1 it's the alpha fighters. I just can't see Macross licensing the VF-1's to be produced in a movie made in the U S. Know what I mean?

However, I really would love to see a VF-1s screaming in and blowing the f#ck out of a Zen Battle pod, that would be soo sweet!

Too bad Robotech sucked.
Unlike Macross.

Guess I won't have to fear about them screwing up one of my favorite franchises then. It's just robotech after all.
