An Internet Plea

Ok guys, I got this email today and felt it worthy to pass on in here in order to help garner some support. I myself am an animal lover and care for my pets greatly so I can see where the guy is coming from.

Hello,

My name is Robert and I am asking for some assistance. I am reaching out to the internet community for help. My mothers dog Otis was struck by a car in a hit and run and was hurt pretty badly. I have set up a donation system through paypal hoping that you will be inclined to help.

Here is the link to the website where you can find a little more information and make a donation if you wish.

God Bless you all who take the time to read this or even look at the site.

Sincerely Robert.

P.S. Even if you decide this is not worth your time please pass thing along to others that you may know who may feel inclined to help. Thank you very much.

The first red flag that goes up for me is that there aren't any pictures of the dog.

I actually emailed him on this and he said that pics will be up this weekend after he has a chance to go visit his mom to get some. Guy seems sincere enough.

That's what they said about the accountant in Nigeria that was holding $25US million in trust for me. :-(

I can go online right now and get you pictures of "my dog." Blow him off. He's looking for a handout.

Seriously though guys. I'm doing what I can to help if it is legit. If its not then oh well, I didn't donate anything to his cause yet so no harm no foul. I may not be as cynical as some people are and I know there are plenty of scams out there(I see them in my company email on a daily basis), this one seemed a little different.

In terms of aquatic/amphibious animals, I'm more of a turtle kind of guy.

But for pets altogether, I much prefer cats. (I have a weird phobia about large dogs.)

1) Go to the local animal shelter.

2) Find a dog that is ill/has been hurt.

3) Chip in for its care.

Same difference, except you know you aren't being cheated.

Another option is just to donate money to your local shelter in general.

IMO one should never ever ever ever pass on chain mail, its just not very clever. Most of these pleas arent genuine, and As far as i am aware chaining emails can be used (i dont know if this is real, but i have heard it) to locate active email addresses for latter spamming.

I am pretty sure if u read ur warnings from ur email provider and ur anti virus software they would have a similar recommendation-although admittably they would definatly know a hell of a lot more than me.

Are people really that stupid? Wait, what am I saying.

I agree with what Caelus said, though.
