Resident Evil: Extinction

Hello gang, it's not my bag to talk about movies. Normally, I just read what other's say. However, for the first time in a long time I saw a flick on opening nite.

If you like:
Zombie Horror and Kick @ss chix with some video game sci fi thrown in for good measure, then you'll dig this flick.

There were a couple of scenes where, even I got startled (read jump). Pure genius. This was a really good flick. Good story. I don't think that you would have to see the other ones in the series to get the gist of this one, but it wouldn't hurt. There are reoccurring characters. New faces and lots of zombie sh!t.

Maybe Seibs would want to see it to lay his bad dreams to rest. Or, they might make things worse.

Anyway, I'll stop my rant. I just thought that you'd guys would want to hear a positive endorsement of this flick.

So rock on with your bad selves.

Also, I don’t know if I was too engrossed in the movie, or whatnot, but I didn’t notice a killer soundtrack like in the previous two. However, they didn’t need it to carry the story.

I'm just glad the title of the movie didn't actually mean the Resident Evil franchise would go Extinct. Cause that would suck.

One could only hope, the title meant Extinction for the film franchise.

Just got back from this movie.

Holy crap, it was laughably bad.

There were more plot holes or continuity errors than there were zombies.

This movie was, at least, better than House of the Dead 2, but not by much.

The acting, was terrible(save for Milla's). They introduced Claire Redfield, poorly.

I love how, for the movies, they emphasize "based upon the games" because, the only thing they kept the same anymore was the title, names of characters, companies and places.

Oh, apparently, Alice escaped from the "Detroit facility" and not the Racoon City one.

This movie was, like I said before, was laughably bad. I was cracking up the entire time at stuff that just did not make sense.

I can't say I didn't enjoy watching it, it was funny, even not meaning to be. If you're a fan of the films, go see it, just don't have uber hopes for it.

Also, begun the clone wars have.

I think there was, if I remember right. There were so many trailers, like 6 or so.

I liked it, as much as I have liked any of the others in the movie series. They always get me interested back into the games, even if the movies are really nothing like the games except for the facts that Hugo brought up.

I wonder why they do not make movie only Resident Evil games? Using the Milla/Alice character, one would think this would be a way to keep the franchise alive in the long waits between the regular releases. Or I suppose it could serve to make it more boring and repetitive to folks.

Yes, you can see this movie and never have watched the other two. it takes place a good months, or even years after the escape from Detroit in #2.

Plot holes aside it did have some nice gore, scary jump moments, and new stuff.

Be interesting to see if they possibly make a 4th, or if they let it fall here and be done.

They could always go a different way and use Leon Kennedy, or maybe follow events similar to RE 4. Put Jason Statham in as Leon--or anyone--, it would actually work well for more than just a Resident Evil fight zombies movie, the los plagas virus, and all, would be sweet! Plus, I really want to see those slow moving creeps that you have to shoot using the infared scope to see their infected parasites. Those guys freakin' rock!

I got RE3 and 30 days as a trailer for Superbad. Still no release date for either film here yet. :-(

The story is not about the regs, it's about Alice. Now she has her "Sisters" to take down the Unbrella Corp.

I love chix that kick @ss. Not since Segorny Weaver from Alien(s) have we had a chick kick this much @ss.

Yes, but I am not sure I will be too thrilled about an army of Alice's fighting zombies as the premise for the movie. Titilating. Yes. Boring. Indeed.

If they make a next, I was hoping for something more. Hopefully they work it out in a cool way.

Wesker, HUNK, Ana, and buddies could all be a part of it, I suppose. I hope the tofu gets a reference somehow... :P

to be honest, if they're going to go the clone route in the next movie, I'd like to see it get narrowed down to the original Alice and one clone, and have the clone go all Code Veronica and mutate into basically what alexia ashford was in that game.

then again, an army of Milla Jovaviches does have it's appeal

Fun, but not good. Not as good as the other two anyway. And why did LJ have to go out like that? Not that you couldn't see it coming for half the movie.

My biggest complaint is we couldn't see Wesker do anything. He was basically a name they threw into the movie to give it connection to the games. If they make a 4th, Alice better meet up with him. He's too important to the RE universe to keep behind a desk.

Well, Wesker was a behind the scenes man for a lot of it...

You'd think if they could find ammo and guns up the yin yang, that they would also have found armor of sorts, and just leave extremeties uncovered. Then if they got infected, it's the big lop off for it.

It was hard not to see LJ's fate coming, even the trailers showed him getting attacked.

:-?

Yeah, he was (in both the movie or the games), but I woulda loved to see him do his super jump like in Code Veronica or his super punch like in 4.

The only trailer I saw was the commercial-in-a-commercial trailer, and I didn't catch LJ.

I'll be honest. I didn't even know RE 3 the movie existed until I saw this thread.

I had a major problem with these movies and here it is-

what did the first one have to do with the movie?
I mean you could call it "boo haunted house" and no one would think that this was a movie about resident evil.

Except for the dogs, zombies, and licker, T-virus named, Hive named, S.T.A.R.S named and used, etc....

I agree it could have been more game like and focused on game characters more, but it's not generic enough to call anything, IMHO. 8)

He didn't say what's it have to do with the game, he asked what does it have to do with the movie.

Which makes no sense if you ask me

I like all three.

Are they exactly like the games?

No, and why should they be?

The games are basically movies by themselves.

Like I said in another thread, it takes a lot of balls and creativity to take a concept that's accepted by a lot of people and try and do something new with it.

Like the new Bionic Woman, its a new take on the concept and its millions and millions of times better then the old one.

I meant game sorry,I feel those references are like calling jason X DooM because one of the characters has a weapon called a BFG.And its in space.
The games were about normal people fighting monsters and trying to escape their situation,The movies have a Neo type person kicking zombie dogs and doing monsters with a catchy rock music theme. It seemed to take the realism out of it ,well as much realism you can get for a movie about zombies

She did. Rewatch the end of the 2nd movie, after Racoon city was nuked Alice was back in the tender care of Umbrella and the people who escaped ,Valentine ect, freed her from Detroit. She didn't escape from the Racoon City facility anyway, they let her out for a field test, there were even a few lines along that vien in the movie.

Some of my issues with the movie. I prefer that things be internally consistant (unless that is part of the fun but that's rare) and unless a change is part of the story I don't want it made. Hollywood does that alot ,mainly because writers rarely get people in the fields to help them with technical issues. Heck some geeks might even do it for free.

The umbrella base that kept being shown, um those zombies should have ripped that fence down fast. Hundreds of human level strength people with hands that don't get tired or feel pain would rip the chain links off of the poles within months at least and the movie is 5 years after the outbreak at Raccoon city.

Alice was shown in the second movie that she could sense if someone was infected with the T-virus, though admittedly LJ was never shown near her in this movie. He would have known she could do that and may explain why an old friend didn't come over and talk to her. HOWEVER, if I was in a world like that and had survived for 5 years I would be parinoid of the black guy who started turning grey along the edges within a day of fighting a zombie. That is a sign of necrotising flesh and I would insist on checking him for bite marks.

I went and saw it and I'll be honest and say that a part of the problem was that I was in the theater and one of those idiotic parents with a small child were in there during most of the film.

It was a good film, but it didn't see to go much with the other two. The other two were about the actual zombie/other creatures attacks and this one focused too much on the other stuff. We had a few zombies here and there, followed by cloned zombies in L.A., and then the final fight at the end. I guess it just didn't do the correct amount of coverage of the different focus points.

It wasn't bad, though. I've seen plenty of BAD zombie movies and it wasn't a BAD zombie movie.
