When did this happen? I'll admit it's been a long time since I've been in there. Why is it gone?

Basically, philosophy gave way to stupidity, so it got nixed...

In his post Seibertron said that seibertron.com shouldn't be a place to talk about religion and politics.

If that's the case then why have the forum to begin with and THEN say that's the forum to go to for religion and politics?

I achieved Enlightenment.

There was no need for it anymore.

I love a good debate and I am very good at playing Devil's advocate. I don't think that the forum as a whole should have got the axe, just a few of the threads. However, I do agree that things were getting out of hand.

I would like to see the Phils forum up and running again. However, I know that religion and politics will get brought up again. That's what Philosophy's all about.

I PM's Seibs last week to see if we'll get a reprieve, but I never got a response, so the Magik 8 Ball says, "Outlook not good."

We both realized that we were working in our own best interest. It was a point of agreement that we could form a deadly alliance off of.

It's a pretty good thing it got locked.

Say what you like, but this is a TRANSFORMER website.

We have to deal with reality enough in everyday life. There should be an escape from it on our favourite tf website.

:BOT: Yeah, things were out of hand. In Ryan's opinion, it's best to lock the forum. It just seemed to lose it's purpose.

But I agree with Master Blaster, this is a Transformers website and I come here to geek out :) :CON:

I agree. Philosopher's Forum is too chaotic and it's best to shut down that forum for good.

The philospher's forum was a lot better before all the politics and religion crap.

Honestly, if the only thing you can discuss is religion and politics, somethings wrong. Those are just 'easy' topics. When you run out of ideas, you know religion is a hot issue, you bring that up, incite debate quickly, or in this case, debate, flaming, some more debate and more flaming.

I missed the discussions on whether time travel could be done. How ghosts could exist. Where we(humanity/earth) would be several thousand years down the road. The progression of society, etc.

Now, that was fun.

But then all the religion topics ruined it.

You're right. The forum was fine until two weeks prior to it being shut down.

If one didn't post in there frequently, then it probably seemed like it was shut down over nite.

I remember, it started getting heated up because religion(s) were being bashed, bashing and a genreal bad will towards fellow man was persisting. Even a mod was starting scary threads and hate was reigning supreme.

Bossman Seibs saw it and locked it. We had a message about why he did it. Then earlier this week, the entire forum was shut dowm.

I agree it was fun discussing, time travel and things of that nature. I'm not really surprised that it all went south, the speed that it happened in is what caught me off guard.

I somehow think it was my fault, I mean I started one thread that got misinterpreted, and then they just used it to bash religion, which I didn't want to happen.

Yep, it's your fault. Now that we have a scapegoat, let's burn him and yell, "Charyou Tree!"

It's really everyone's fault who participated. I know that I had a hand in it's demise also.

Hopefully, we'll get a second chance.

It's all up to Seibs.

That forum needs someone in charge who can hold a good debate without making it personal. Too many people were getting way too defensive about really sensitive subjects that people are very passionate about. The forum is simply hidden from public view until Cyber Bishop and I have a chance to discuss the future of the Philosopher's Forum.

I'm currently too busy juggling the merging Transtopia into Seibertron and upgrading our Forums from phpBB2 to phpBB3 to deal with that forum at this time. Those two issues affect tens of thousands of people instead of the small few who visit the Philosopher's Forum. Therefore, the other projects I'm working on rank much higher than figuring out what to do with a forum that isn't operating as it was originally intended. This is ultimately a Transformers website. I have to worry about issues pertaining to the core of this website first before worrying about a forum that really doesn't even belong here on my website.

The Philosopher's Forum got to a point where I was fielding too many complaints regarding a variety of issues stemming from some of the hot tempers and views that I decided it was best to lock it up for the time being. I'd like to have the forum around for mature discussions as it was originally intended but not if people can't actually have a rational discussion debating those sensitive issues. If it's just going to become an overall immature, mudslinging, namecalling and inappropriate forum, then we don't need it here at all.

The Philosopher's Forum, if it returns, will be run very strict so as to avoid the craziness that had consumed that forum. Hopefully someone can rise to the occassion to manage that forum that has a level head, can debate well and not take issues personally when someone disagrees with them. That person will also need to be able to diplomatically suspend/ban users and lock topics as needed without smart ass remarks or taking a dig at another user's views while dishing out appropriate punishments. Two wrongs do not make a right.

The bottom line is that I do not have time right now to administrate that forum properly. The forum will remain closed until I have time to talk with Cyber Bishop at an unknown future date about our plans for that forum.

I hope this clarifies the situation revolving the Philosopher's Forum as it currently stands. Please let us know if you have any further questions. I will receive notifications for when a reply is posted so that I can help alleviate any potential concerns that you guys might have.

Thanks,
Ryan

I sent you a PM but received the following error message, which I believe stems from the ampersand in your username.

Seibertron.com wrote:Sorry, but no such user exists

You can send PMs to yourself. Can you send yourself a PM to see if you receive the same error? This should be resolved when we upgrade to phpBB3 in the near future.

Please do not PM me asking if you can be in charge of that forum. I need to talk with Cyber Bishop first, at a later date, when I have more time available to handle an issue like the Philosopher's Forum. I do not have time right now to respond to requests to manage that forum. Thanks for your understanding.

Sorry.
Won't happen again, but I wasn't awaiting an answer right now, but once the forum would return, if it returns.

Can I make a sig that does it instead? :???:

I'm thinking something like "Counterpunch!?! He's super effective!"

No, but seriously, I'm way too stupid for that place. :-(

Aw, Hell no.

Though it seems I overreacted a bit.

The case seemed to be "BAM! NO PF FOR YOU!" As long as it's just on hold (and not a HMW V2 hold mind you! :P ) I can deal for now. I assumed it got deleted, which was real bad mojo for me, as it only seemed to get really heated the past 2 weeks or so from a few people at best. I love the Philosophers Forum, and enjoy seeing the different points of discussion. I consider it my favorite part of the forums. The variety is good-- if we're only supposed to talk about transformers, then why even have a GD? Talking about issues is great. To sum up, I'll be sticking around.
