Okay. So, I've been following the rumors/news about this one pretty heavily since it was greenlit, as I'm a huge JLA/DC fan and I've longed to see a live action Justice League flick forever now. The news coming out, though, has got me really wondering where DC/Warner's heads are at with this one.
My first disappointment came with the news that they were actively seeking to find new actors to portray Batman and Superman instead of using either Christian Bale or Brandon Routh. I can't possibly understand why they wouldn't want to use the current actors! Bale's been praised heavily for his Batman, and Routh was a pretty okay Superman. With sequels to both franchises still on the horizon, I can't begin to imagine why they'd want to muddy the waters by recasting JUST for the Justice League movie. Just seems really odd to me.
Yesterday, it was pretty much confirmed that the Green Lantern to be used is John Stewart. Someone needs to fill me in on what, exactly, DC has against Hal Jordan. Probably one of their most popular characters next to the Big Three, yet he's always shafted outside of the comics.
Also yesterday, rumors began circulating about the plotline. It seems the script ( as rumored ) is pretty much a direct takeoff of Tower of Babel / OMAC Project, ie, unnamed villains get ahold of a database created by Batman as a contingency in case any of the JLA ever goes bad and uses it against the JLA. I'm not sure where to start with this one. It doesn't seem like the best story to start a potential JLA movie franchise out on. I guess it depends on how closely they write the character interaction to what was in Tower of Babel, but it seems like they could easily do a great deal of damage to Batman's character depending on how they write him in this one. Seems kind of nuts considering how much damage control they've done since Infinite Crisis to make him his old, likeable self again.
I'm wondering what other JLA fans think of this one, especially fans of DC Comics as opposed to DC Animated fans. THoughts?
