Okay. So, I've been following the rumors/news about this one pretty heavily since it was greenlit, as I'm a huge JLA/DC fan and I've longed to see a live action Justice League flick forever now. The news coming out, though, has got me really wondering where DC/Warner's heads are at with this one.

My first disappointment came with the news that they were actively seeking to find new actors to portray Batman and Superman instead of using either Christian Bale or Brandon Routh. I can't possibly understand why they wouldn't want to use the current actors! Bale's been praised heavily for his Batman, and Routh was a pretty okay Superman. With sequels to both franchises still on the horizon, I can't begin to imagine why they'd want to muddy the waters by recasting JUST for the Justice League movie. Just seems really odd to me.

Yesterday, it was pretty much confirmed that the Green Lantern to be used is John Stewart. Someone needs to fill me in on what, exactly, DC has against Hal Jordan. Probably one of their most popular characters next to the Big Three, yet he's always shafted outside of the comics.

Also yesterday, rumors began circulating about the plotline. It seems the script ( as rumored ) is pretty much a direct takeoff of Tower of Babel / OMAC Project, ie, unnamed villains get ahold of a database created by Batman as a contingency in case any of the JLA ever goes bad and uses it against the JLA. I'm not sure where to start with this one. It doesn't seem like the best story to start a potential JLA movie franchise out on. I guess it depends on how closely they write the character interaction to what was in Tower of Babel, but it seems like they could easily do a great deal of damage to Batman's character depending on how they write him in this one. Seems kind of nuts considering how much damage control they've done since Infinite Crisis to make him his old, likeable self again.

I'm wondering what other JLA fans think of this one, especially fans of DC Comics as opposed to DC Animated fans. THoughts?

I bet that the reason they are looking for other actors is just a schedule conflict. Specially because both Batman and Superman have sequels in the making.

About Stewart... See, this depends on your age.

The main GL that I read during my childhood was Guy Gardner because of JLI; and then during my teenager days, Kyle Rayner. So I can't really connect with Jordan, seeing as when I started reading more about him, he had already become Parallax. Besides his old Superfriends appearances, he was a cypher for me. And I think that's true for a lot of people. Now, enter JLU. John Stewart is THE Green Lantern for a lot of people, seeing as he was the main GL for many years on tv. Sure, it was a PC thing (to have a diverse team, same reason Hawkgirl was on the show), but it doesn't change the fact that John is pretty well known now, and he has been the GL in the eyes of the media for a while.

This is very true about GL. Sadly, John Stewart's such a 'blah' character in comparison. Of all the Earth's GLs, he's GOT to be the least 'cool'. Guy would be great onscreen, and would make the perfect comic relief character! Kyle would be a great choice too, at least he's got an interesting personality with tons of story quirks to play up. Hal's been riding high since Rebirth, and has been great since his return to the DCU. Heck, he's been so popular that they've got him teamed with Batman in their own book! How cool is that?!

I get the feeling, though, that the big reason is the diversity issue, which is understandable, yet kind of sad too. I guess it's not John's fault that there's not really any other major minority DC hero they could use in his place.

I dunno, Black Vulcan from the Super Friends would be pretty awesome as a replacement for John Stewart.

But, yeah Hal Jordan has been riding high, in the comics. Any DC visual media and he's really been shafted. The most screen time he's received was on Duck Dodgers of all places.

I think that the BEST news to come out of this JL movie is that the producers are in talks with Jessica Biel for Wonder Woman.......can you picture this body in WW's costume???????

She's only 5'7" and a half but that dosnt matter with the movies, Wolverine was supposed to be short, 5'3" was his first height in his first entree to the 70's Marvel Universe profiles books but the actor that played him is like 6'2" .......And Storm was supposed to be tall with Blue eyes,6'1" [from the same book] and Hallie Berry is barly 5'4".....The Invisible Woman was never showen to be as hot as Jessica Alba, she was more like a pretty hot school teacher not a super model....Michael Keaton is about 5;6" and Batman is supposedto be in the 6'2" range [it changes from time to time] Chris O'Donnell as Robin looked much older then Val Kilmer's Batman.....And dont make me get into the Spiderman movies,no matter how great they were the tow leads bared little resemblance to their comic book counter parts and MJ was totaly out of charactor....they never go with actors that really look like their comic book counter parts......I would just be happy with someone that fills out the costume nicely.

i just read on ign that biel will NOT be playing wonder woman and that rapper T.I. auditioned for green lantern/jon stewart  . this is already looking to be another typical hollywood screw up. also i agree that it should be hal jordan in the movie and not stewart but lets stop trying to be politically correct here. jon stewarts in it because he's black and that's that. sad but true even in this day and age. for that matter, we should've had a green lantern movie years ago. for some reason he just never gets any respect.

What is IGN????And I dont think Hal Jorden would be a good choice......I never really liked him........I always prefered the first GL over Jorden.I think they should go with a Alien GL for this Movie.

1. I think they should do a GL movie featuring Hal before doing a JLA movie. No offense to anyone but Hal is one of DC's top characters and deserves some screen time. If they do a GL movie they should base it Emerald Dawn and Emerald Dawn II with Hal played by Eric Bana and who better to play a cop gone bad than Micheal Chiklis as Sinestro also get Dennis Franz to voice Kilowog and have Jessica Biel as Carol Ferris

2. I think the plot could be better perhaps do it based on New World Order

I dont think Hal is really one of DC's top characters......sure he's popular now but how long will it last.Hal Jorden GL comics have been canceled more times then I can count on one hand and none have been as well liked as the Kyle Rayner series.Making John Stwerd GL on the JL toon might have been the result of wanting a Black guy on the show but Hal wasnt even considered by DC........they were pushing for Kyle......they even introduce Kyle in the Superman animated show.

I know hes had trouble carrying a series in the past but in terms of making a great hollywood movie Hal would be a good choice.

Don't get me wrong I love all the GL's espcially Guy Gardner and Alan Scott and Kyle but Hal is the way I would go for a live action movie but if they decide to do a direct to dvd movie like Superman Doomsday I would like to see Kyle featured

1. Biel would be nice, but Lucy Lawless would be closer, because seriously, what's the difference between Wonder Woman and Xena?

2. Hal would also be nice (Although I'd much rather see Kyle or Guy), but you have to realize, since Hal was, for the most part, excluded from the Timmiverse (Aside from a very brief cameo in JLU, and his name being shown in Superman: TAS),that a lot of people wouldn't really connect with him.

That said, John got TONS of exposure in JL and JLU, and a lot of people who don't read comics are going to recognize his name. (Which also presents a problem; Jon Stewart hosts the Daily Show, stupid people WILL get confused)

Although, since Hal is going to be featured a lot in the next season of The Batman (I guess? I don't really watch it) if he proves successful, Mr. Jordan will have a better chance.

Aye, they've decided to mine The Brave and The Bold for The Batman animated series, and it's about damned time. There's some fantastic stories that have been done in the past with Batman and Hal Jordan ( check out the current issues of Brave and the Bold! ). It's an interesting dichotomy: on one hand you have the character who's chief weapon is fear, on the other you have the character who's dedicated to rising above fear. Not to mention that Hal's one of the few DC heroes to lay out Batman with a punch and not get the tar kicked out of him ( though, ol' Bats did get him back later ).

On the whole 'Hal Jordan is an unknown' thing, I totally call BS. Fact is, Hal Jordan has been the fan favorite GL since the old Alan Scott days, but has been mired with some really, really bad writers over the years. He's kind of like Superman, in that he's a hard character for a writer to keep interesting. You just can't throw stock bad guys and plots at him: with the ring, he can pretty much do anything ( and yellow's not a problem either ). Remember Superman Red and Blue? The writers either have to get crazy creative to keep the characters interesting, or their book sales dwindle.

I was a huge GL fanboy in the days when Death of Superman occurred, and the destruction of Coast City kicked off the chain of events that EVEN NOW is effecting the DCU. I remember when Hal went nuts and assaulted Oa, and the Guardians had to drag out Sinestro of all freakin' people to try to stop him. I remember the fans screaming for the heads of DC for turning their beloved GL evil, and replacing him with a really lame knockoff. Granted, Kyle's grown on us since then, but at the time....

The point is, DC should be capitalizing on the biggest, best story they've got going right now, and it ain't Countdown. The whole Sinestro Corps storyline is pretty much the best thing in comics right now, and it's flying under the radar of waaay too many readers because too few people pay attention to Green Lantern. It's unfortunate, because the story going in Sinestro Corps could have huge ramifications to the rest of DCU. Not to mention that they've finally managed to make the pink/purple yellow ring wearing sissy Sinestro not only cool, but pretty freakin' badass. Not many people can say they're able to boss around Cyborg Superman, Superboy Prime AND the freakin' Anti-Monitor.

So... yeah. More freakin' Hal Jordan. I say at the very least they make the next DC direct to DvD animated movie after New Frontier a GL story, preferably Emerald Twilight.

Your welcome to your opinion on Hal but I've been reading DC comics since 1976 and I can tell you this....none of the people I grew up with liked Hal very much. For the most part,It was ether Alen Scott or any of the Alien Gl's that we read the book for[They would put back up Stories about the Alien Gl's at the back of the book] and we loved it when they brought in John.I guess to each their own.
