Is there such thing as an evil Autobot and a good Decepticon in Transformers?

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having good guys and bad guys?

There have been, but they're few and far between. Mostly it's that Decepticons side with the Autobots if they don't form a new splinter faction altogether. I can give a few examples:

Beast Wars Dinobot
Probably the best written character ever. Originally a Predacon, he left after he decided that Megatron's actions had been foolish. He joined the Maximals, but his ideas on honor and duty often clash with the rest of the crew.

Cybertron Mudflap
He was originally an Autobot, but he sided with the Decepticons, as per his wikipedia bio:

In the cartoon, Mudflap was originally one of the Autobot civilian refugees hiding on Earth. Disgruntled with having to exist in secret amongst the lowly human race and stopping at traffic lights, Mudflap was sought out and recruited to join the Decepticons by Starscream, but then he left and wandered Earth. Eventually Mudflap rejoins the Autobots.

In the G1 cartoon Skyfire switches to an autobot. I was 4 years old at the time and it was the awesomemest thing I'd ever seen.

Then there's Thundercracker who's bio says he is unsure about the Decepticon cause.

So yes, occasionally there are.

Did he? I thought he and Starscream were friends before the war started, before factions and all that.

I'll have to go back and watch those episodes....

You could say that Dead End's not all that bad. Since he finds fighting pointless, he could possibly understand why most of the Autobots don't enjoy battle.

Yeah, but Dead End finds everything pointless. He's the first emo TF.

I also don't think Thundercracker's a potential switcher. Just because he's not sure about the Decepticons' specific intentions, doesn't make him a good guy - and I really don't think he is. If he wasn't a Decepticon, I don't think he'd do much of anything - they give him a purpose, which he didn't have before joining.

The closest I think you've got to 'evil' Autobots would be the likes of Sunstreaker and Repugnus; fuelthirsty, heartless mechs, with very little in the way of a moral centre.

As for 'good' Decepticons, the best I can think of offhand are Carnivac (who still considered himself a killer, but ended up deciding to use his skills in defence of innocents), and Scorponok (after some time of being binary-bonded to Zarak, both had their eyes opened to the horror of what they were doing).

Armada Starscream. The only version that was really well done. Also, probably, one of the few well done characters in Armada. He was so awesome, he killed himself just so he could get the Autobots and Decepticons to team up.

G1 Blitzwing joined the bots after he tried to stop Galvatron from falling for a Quintesson trick.

Waitasec.

This is illogical.

I tried to get the user id "The Fallen" before, but it was already in use by OS for HMW. And it was created BEFORE 11 Nov.

So who ARE you?

Yeah but he was only with the Decepticons for a second

They were friends before the war but when he was found on earth he joined his friend Starscream as a Decepticon for the first half of the episode.

Actually Emo was around in the eighties it was not what we now call emo but it had the same basic principles.

I've been watching ALL of the G1 episodes again and I'd say there were alot of Bots and Cons who seemed to be on the fence.

In the 80's 'Emo' meant Emotional Hardcore, which was bands like Rites Of Spring. They were born out of the Hardcore scene, but wanted to say more than "GRR ANGER!" Todays Emo is more like Pop Punk, which isn't quite the same thing. So Dead End would have been ahead of his time! The first modern Emo, perhaps...

And of course, the ultimate non-aligned bad guy-

Deaths Head.

Is he good?
Is he evil?
Does he care?

I always thought the cartoon Cliffjumper was a bit on the violent side.

Victory Leo fights for the Cybertrons but doesn't care for their cause. He doesn't care about the humans. He doesn't seem to care about anyone. All that's in his mind is "kill Destrons, who cares what else gets blown up/killed in the process."

That is, intil God Ginrai awakens within him... Beautiful episode...
