Hi, I just recovered from a serius attack of worms and stuff on my PC, but I want to make shure it never happens again.

Would you please be so kind to help me?

I'm looking for the best firewall and security suit that is free.

Cos I've been using northon up to now and that just et everything pass and let it do its stuff, I keep hearing about a free security program that is free and kicks all other programs ass, please provide a link to it.

Thanks in advance.

No worries dude.

AVG Free Anti-Virus software, and pretty useful.

Though it maybe better to back up your documents that are important and reinstall Windows.

If you'r computer is 'infested' that's your best bet for security.

I was going to vouch for AVG. I use AVG antivirus and firewall after trying the so called big guns and having nothing but problems with them. A lot of people crow about Nod32 which i cannot confirm.
SpyBot is essential free spyware program and i have SuperAntiSpyware which i think have a 30 day free trial. SAS is running constantly yet doesnt use loads of resources like some others i tried.
Now to the "Dont do it again" bit. Stop visiting so called "free" pron sites. No such thing as a free munch! If you are still going to, be carefull of what you download and open. A pop-up blocker is essential, and if it is blocked leave it that way. If your using Firefox i recommend Adblock Plus. Cant help if your using IE as i stopped using that eons ago.Simple and effeective. Never open a .EXE file to view video content or allow wmp to download apparent new codecs to view an .mpeg. That would be just asking for trouble.

There are lots of totally free security options, but if your visiting sites where you need security, pay for it! 50 bux might sound like a lot, but what it protects is far more valuable. IMHO anyway. GL with the wormage.

(does that sound preachy? ss if it did)

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't such a resource hog.

But really, Windows has it's own built in firewall, throw in AVG and common sense about where you're surfing and you'll be fine.

The majority of infections occur because people don't realise what they're downloading.

Depending on the version that takes some registry adjustment. If it sounds ominous dont do it manually. You can do more damage than the infection would have done! A good registry cleaner is usefull even just for keeping your system from clogging. And as Burn says, windoze has a firewall built in that will keep anyone who would be interested in you out.

Oh, nono no.
My online company (don't want to call names now do we T-Online) gave us the newest northon as part as our flat rate, it scanned everything and it always said everything is OK.
I was skeptical so I downloaded the google pack with SpywareDoctor, and scanned and it found a lot of things, 8 dangerous things with 280 infections!

F northon, it used a lot of space and is total ****.
