So i just got mine from Target, the 3 disc special edition. So far, the commentary is cool. The movie feels different the second time around, especially once you understand the filmmakers' motives for why they included some characters, and omitted others, as well as the changes with the mythos. Though the film itself has become tolerable in my opinion, it still doesn't have the finesse of Spidey 2. My only complaint with this "special edition", along with recent special editions in general, is that I just feel that they could've added more features. Little by little, I feel that most of us who care about special features are getting shafted with features that in all honesty belong on the first disc.

Mmm. Odd that us in Europe got such a big movie on dvd before the US as its been out here for 3 weeks now. Picked it up on Blu-Ray in the Trilogy boxset for €52/$73(rrp €75) thanks to a student discount and a very favorable £stg-€ rate, I'm a bit dissapointed that 1 is barebones and the only extra on 2 is th 2.1 cut.
Die Hard 4.0/ Live Free or Die Hard came out here this week, also a bit disappointing as there is a 2 disc uncut version of the film on dvd(hurray for blood and excessive swearing), but the Blu-Ray version only contains the sanitized cinema cut.

Picked it up as well today. And it doesn't suck as much this time around.
And did anyone else see the new Spider-Man Build a Figure toys?! THEY HAVE EVERYONE IN THE NON SCREWED UP SCALE! As in they're in scale with all Marvel Legends. I knew Hasbro was going to do this. Good thing I didn't buy the crappy tiny figures when it came out in the theater.
Not to mention that Venom seems to have much more posability. Dunno why. But I can FINALLY get a Venom figure in the pose below without him toppling.

i saw that venom today, but did not see any others from that series. i did however see the new mysterio and new scorpion, as well as a new rhino paint. i passed on all of them because all the paint app was crap. might get venom tomorrow.
as for the DVD it might be better the second time, i'll just have greatly lower my expectations than when i saw it first day in theatre

But do they erase the cheeziness and melodrama of the final scene the second time around?

I plan to get it--I did like the movie, but more for Sandman (even though they made him yet another bad guy you're supposed to feel sympathy toward)--but probably not until its price drops a little.

I absolutely love SpiderMan, but the movies are getting so weak and whiny. Full of tears and sniffles, not to mention Peter goes all Emo in this one.
Sandman was pretty awesome though.

S3 wasen't bad, but I was kinda disapointed with it.

I'll prolly just get for X-mas Saw the new figs too, not too shabby. Although isn't venom out of scale? Isn't Eddie in the movie the same size as Spidey?

I'll definitely pick up the DVD. The first Spider-Man flick is still my favorite one.

Nope. He's about a foot taller in the movie. It's really noticeable when he shows Parker who he is up in the webbing. You can see the body is way larger and built up than Topher Grace.

Raimi shouldn't have included Sandman by making him responsible for uncle Ben's death. Sandman never had anything to do with it in the comics. It was really the robber that Peter refused to stop before. Which Peter later stopped to avenge his uncle Ben. The focus should of been more on Eddie Brock ,and the symbiote. Along with Harry Osborne. They shouldn't have put Harry's sherlock playing butler saying he knew who killed his father Norman Osborne to Harry. It ruined the plot twist. It would of been better if Harry would of figured it out for himself with some soul searching. By him reflecting on the stuff Peter told him. Also the emo Peter dancing part ,and Mary Jane singing also made it look cheesy as well. It could of been so much more if Raimi would of tried not to add so much to the story. He should of thought of it before he did Spiderman 3.

I just want to focus on this one part:

You've never seen Sam Raimi's other movies, have you? Take a look at Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness.

That shouldn't matter. Spider-Man for the most part was devoid of retarded stuff like the dancing and singing. It was a good straight retelling of Spider-Mans origins. He completely blew it with the second and third movies by reverting back to his Evil Dead ways. Stupid humor works in those movies. It doesn't in a more serious film. Which is why the first movie is still my favorite.
They could have cut 30 minutes of crap out of this film and added and it would be much better off because of it. No dancing, no singing and no Sandman. He wasn't needed. Harry was more than enough of a reason for him to get angry. He didn't need some stupid sub plot of "Oh sorry, this is your Uncles real killer. We've known for 4 years but just didn't feel like telling you until we knew he had escaped".
That's horrible writing.

Yeah, SM3 could have done without Sandman. He's a cool enough villain, and looked great on screen. But turning around and making him Ben Parker's murderer wrecks the origin. Doesn't that mean that Peter killed a two-timing thief instead of a murderer?

and doesn't that ruin his movie-origin entirely?
as stated before, sandman was completely unnecessary in the movie. the same goes for the symbiote. what are the chances of an "aggressive meteor" or whatever, landing near one of the most powerful people on the planet? what if it landed near a feral cat or something??

Haha... that would have been funny. Or maybe a bum sleeping on a bench? He could get all the whiskey he wanted!

I really despised Spidey 3 in theaters... but at Target today, I saw the deluxe edition and the collector in me said "I NEED IT!"

Is that bonus disc from Target's exclusive worth the higher price? What exactly is on it?

When you buy it at Best Buy, don't you get a free Spidey mask to go with?

It's horrible. It's no better than the ones you get with a childs halloween costume.
Get the Target edition. Nice box and the third disc has the winners of the Spider-Man 3 Spin your own Webisode contest (5 different ones), On the set of SM3 and the winners of the contest at the Academy awards. Worth the extra $2.00

It was a tough choice between this or Wal-Mart's exclusive comic (tempting since it had Bendis and Bagley). But I like the behind the scenes stuff.
It's definitely a good commentary. Lots of good stuff is revealed. Such as changing the final action scenes where originally it was Gwen in peril, not MJ. Sam cut out a last scene with Sandman's daughter, which I thought the movie really needed. And who knew Topher is such a die-hard geek!

I probably won't be buying this one. I saw it twice in the movie theatre acctually. And honestly the second time I didn't really want to see it, but I was obligated too since I just couldn't wait to go see it by myself. It was ok, but still one of the biggest disappointments of all time. I'm still trying to figure out how this movie was most expensive movie of all time when Transformers special effects were MUCH more impressive. Hell what special effects? 90% of the movie was Petter walking around acting EMO in the venom suit. Guess there might have been a half hour of actual action in it! The Icing on the cake? Venom getting 10 minutes of screen time and then getting killed off!
IT wrapped up the events of Spiderman 1 and 2 which both were awesome IMO, but other than that I have little interest in watching it again. And of course Sony has pretty much said they ain't gonna stop with the movies until they run it into the ground. I say its obviously heading in a bad direction now, quit while your ahead. Especially since most likely Maquire, Dunst, and Rami won't be back for 4! Love how money controls everything
I refuse to see spiderman 4
