IGN.com wrote:Chipmunks has found its Dave. My Name is Earl star Jason Lee will topline the Fox 2000 film as Dave Seville. The pic, based on the TV toon classic, will be a mixture of live-action and CGI animation (for chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore).

The deal marks Lee's secon foray into live-action/CGI family films following this year's Underdog, where he voices the title character.

Tim Hill (Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties) will direct from a script by Jon Vitti. The special effects will be done by Rhythm & Hues.

Filming begins at the end of March, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The trade says "Alvin will center on Seville and the chipmunks, focusing on the trio's origins as singing sensations."

Alvin and the Chipmunks is slated to open Dec. 14th.

Man, Hollywood need some new ideas.
Maybe we'll get "Pet Rock: The Movie" next.

Now there's a movie I would love to go see. A romantic love story about a boy and his pet rock. NEvermind, it does sound awful.

Chipmonks sounds like something my neices and nephew would want to go see. I love playing the good uncle.

Wow, I'm interested in seeing how Hollywood with further rape our childhoods.

By the way it's ChipMUNKS, not chipmonks. This isn't a kung fu movie with high-pitched voice actors! :P
I would have preferred Jason Bateman over Lee, but I'm sure he'll do a good job with whatever 2-ply script they'll give him.

Jason Lee is a good choice. I've enjoyed most of the films he's been in. And of course, "My Name Is Earl" is one of the funniest shows on tv.

Hahaha, you knows what's funny. I copied the text right from IGN. Looks like they've fixed it now. I didn't even notice.

I wish it were a beat em up kung-fu movie. I can see someone breaking Simons glasses, then Simons face goes red and says in a calm voice "Those were $500 glasses, Asshole." Then doing a splint punch to the groin and goro falls off the cliff.

No no, he'd look the guy down, remove the glasses (of course they'd reflect light in a cool manner), and throw the shards of glass to kill the guy.
