Yes, it is to me Tomino's best Gundam series. The US release is pretty good, the quality is nice and the dub actually isn't bad, but its to me my favorite Gundam series, great plot and characters, but also fantastic Mech designs.
Go for it! The boxsetr was only a limited run, so its a little trickier to find them, and they dwindle more and more.
Also, if you're a Gundam fan, Bandai is releasing Gundam IGLOO (realistic CG Gundam miniseries) this month!

It's currently my favorite Gundam series, but Gundam 00 is making a pass at taking that honor.

If you're new to Gundam, or at least Universal Century, then you'll be out of the loop on pretty much everything they say or do in Zeta. I suggest you watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam first, because that'll explain everything you need to know, especially Newtypes.

Other than that, yeah, Zeta boated some high-quality stuff for Japanese animation in 1985 (Which, even now, Japanese animation is still quite imperfect), and even the dub is pretty awesome. (Then again, I've always preferred Dubs to Subtitles)

Damn, I really, really want to see 00, I've heard great things (anything after the atrocity that is GS: Destiny)
I love gundam, great series (especially Turn A)

Well, since it hasn't been licensed yet, it's totally legal to download it. Which is what I've been doing.

And yeah, it IS really great. Still too early to make it a favorite, (An upset ending could really kill it) but it's got great character and mechanical design, and the story is really good, to the point that they give a good amount of focus to pretty much everyone.

I've never watched it before, but the MS looked real good.

Coz I watched a bit of the first gundam series, and continued watching from Seed onwards.

I normally get mine straight from the Tracker (Conclave - Mendoi, for those who are wondering. I like how they laid out the lyrics in the songs), then wait usually about an hour and a half.

In any case, those guys only have up to episode six which, as I write this, are the only ones to have aired.

I just watched ep 6 last night.

I prefer the gundamS.net subs, but since their fansubber is down, I'm sticking to the CM ones for now.

I've got the original Mobile Suit Gundam series on dvd. Along with the 8th ms team, 0080 war in a pocket, 0083 star dust memory, and Char's counterattack movie taking place 14 years after the one year war. I enjoy the original Gundam and it's side stories a whole lot. The reason I was asking about Zeta is because some people say it's either childish because it's aimed more for kids, or boring , or the ending lacks. Just wanted to make sure before I buy it. Thanks! :)

Zeta, Childish!?!

BWA HA HA HA!!

You must be thinking of it's sequel, ZZ. Zeta is one of the series that earned Tomino the nickname "Kill em' all". Pretty gruesome in some aspects and probably the one of the darker if not darkest gundam series.

I haven't seen the entire series, but have seen all 3 of the new movies and enjoyed them alot. Highly recommend the series.

A few spoilers, just so you know how not-kiddie it is:

The Spoiler Box Strikes Back! wrote:Most of the major characters die. I think the only ones who survive are Amuro, Hayato, and Bright Noa.

Kamille survives, too, but he also goes clinically insane. And it's a cliffhanger ending, although they say that the Titans are pretty much gone, Axis-Zeon is still running wild, and the Argama is trashed. That gives the start for ZZ Gundam.

ZZ Gundam, however, begins quite childishly. Yazan Gable, the most badass character in Zeta, is pretty much reduced to childish antics. The series gets really good around the half-way point, so, yeah, it's something to check out.

Yeah I've heard zz is really bad too. I'm least interested in that one. Bright Noa and Haman Kahn characters get wasted there. I heard Haman sees her fate in zz. Hyato Kobayashi is in it too, right? Camile,Amuro, and Char-Quattro aren't present in it either. Just some unknown teenage kids that take over the role.

Kamille IS in it, in fact, he plays a big part in a couple of episodes. Bright and Haman, thankfully, keep their characteristics all intact, even when everyone around them is being so painfully silly.

Amuro, oddly, is never seen, despite several episodes having Hayato and Karaba in focus.

The reason Char was omitted was, actually, because Tomino was given the Green-Light for Char's Counterattack. So he decided not to waste the Red Comet on ZZ.

Overall, it's not a bad series, and it's actually a lot of fun, but only if you can fully accept that it's not going to be as good as Zeta. But find solace that it isn't SEED or SEED Destiny.
