We have a minivan to cart our family around in. It had started creaking when I turned the steering wheel. We put it off taking it to the shop for the inconvenience of not having it. We finally bit the bullet and took it in. We found out it was the tie rods so they were replaced but what is kinda neat about our timing is the mechanic found that a couple of boots were shredded. The mechanic explained that the boots hold the grease in the bearings and that prevents the wheels from locking up. He said that we got it in there just in time. There was no damage done yet but grease was slung all over the underside of our car so it would not have been long before we would have had a big problem.

Don't mechanics always say "You got here just in time"?

I think they use it as a fear inducer to scare people into paying them to do more things to their cars...

Kinda the same thing with dentists. Once I went to one and he said I had six cavaties. When I went to another, I had none. Hmmmm... :-?
