Messages that have been sent, but the user has not been active when the message was sent. (As in, he/she has been on the same page at the time the message was sent, or was not on the site at all)

or more simply put, messages that you have sent that haven't been 'picked up' yet.
Once they have been delivered they move to your 'sent' box.

And by delivered they mean read.

You can also delete pm's sent, just in case you send someone an abusive pm then come to your senses. And you can also edit them as well before they're read.

Once they're moved to the sent box though, you can't take it back ...

So basically the PM goes to your Outbox until the person you sent it to opens it and reads it. When they open it and read it, it goes to your sentbox.

Each reply is getting simpler and simpler. I defy someone to reiterate what I just said in an even clearer fashion. :-P

Outbox = Unread

Sentbox = Read

You know, just in case people thought outbox was read, but sentbox was some random thing. Now they know for sure that sentbox = read.
