They way I see it, once political correctness and "edutainment" became mainstream, the 80's officially never happened. Stuff we grew up with is quite simply not done anymore.

I like Legion and Batman but some of those othersare just poorly animated

I tthis trend ended years ago after we had seen the Animainiacs and Pinky and the Brain come out showing us good animation and storylines were the way to go

One Piece, thank God, was taken over by FUNimation. They may not be the total best ever, but they at least give the stories they're dubbing for America the credit it deserves. Hear that, 4Kids?! That's why you lost! That's why you always lose!

But, in terms of American cartoons, we're getting a new Spider-Man that's showing a lot of promise. I mean, if they show it the respect they gave the last two X-Men cartoons, (X-men TAS and X-Men: Evolution being the best non-DC comic cartoons ever) it should do alright.

And if we're not talking about kid's shows, then Futurama had it's sweet new movie out, and four more on the way, which are supposed to be cut up and turned into the long-awaited Season 5, and on Comedy Central. Thank God for that. Comedy Central won't screw with it like Fox does. Comedy Central, at least, let's a show run it's full season if it doesn't do well, and doesn't switch up the schedule just to ruin a show's ratings. And they'll give it proper advertising.

Won't talk for any other nation but here in Australia you get a crapload of Government funding if you make edu-tainment as opposed to a straight out cartoon.

Meaning you either get 30 minute toy commercials or really bad edutainment cartoons. Or a really bad Wiggles/Hi-5 imitator for shows targeting pre-schoolers.

We all miss Gargoyles.

Alas, poor Goliath! I knew him, Smooth; a fellow of infinite ass-kicking, of most excellent voice acting.

I can most definitely DEFINITELY agree that around 80% of American animated shows are crap nowadays, and am angered by the fact that the only old show that cartoon network is showing nowadays is Scooby **** doo. Though many shows are exceptions (avatar, Legion of super heroes, etc etc)

However I've actually gotten into a newer that grabbed my attention called Eon/Iron kid.

First of all, let me say that the american theme song for it, is horrible.

Second, I'm really surprised how good it is for a kids show. I felt no retardation flowing through me as I'm watching it. It has plenty of good action, great fights, and main character Marty, who is a 11 year old kid, doesn't annoy the **** out of me. He uses strategy when fighting, doesn't act super golly gee spunky, has weaknesses, gets hurt unlike other shows featuring kids, and actually acts like what a kid should act like when thrust into a world full of robots that could hurt/kill you.

I recommend this series, probably one of the better/ best 3d animated series I've seen in a long time.

There's also a show on Toonami called Storm Hawks. It has Scott McNeil as a recurring character, which, for some, is a major selling point. It also has Matt Hill and Sam Vincent, which is a major selling point for me.

It's a CGI show, and cel-shaded. The art style is quite reminiscent of Penny Arcade (In fact, when I first saw it, I thought "Holy ****, Gabe has a cartoon now?!"). The animation is top-notch. If I didn't know better, I'd say Mainframe was doing it.

And the writing is really good, too. They skip edutainment almost entirely, but the action is well done. And a neat concept: Motorcycles that turn into jets?! Sign me up!

Ah, I was wondering where that show went. I didn't know that it switched to Toonami, another good 3d show.

Speaking of which. With Miguzi gone, I'd really like Toonami back where it belongs, on weekdays again. I really don't see why not to put it there again, as the only thing filling weekdays usually is reruns of crap.

I miss also that one thing they had on saturdays instead of toonami, dunno what it was called, but it had this pixelated samus like guy running around shooting everthing and also usually had a great line up.

Also CN, QUIT **** SHOWING LIVE ACTION CRAP!! The Ben 10 movie sucked, that new re animated or whatever show sucks, don't like goosebumps, and you edited the crap out of most of the movies you've shown.

If you want to air crappy live action shows, then change your name to crappy live action network. Adult swim is somewhat exempt of this due to the fact that I don't see the word "cartoon" anywhere it it's name.

I have to agree on storm hawks, but unfortunately it now has the same time slot as cybertron, 6 in the friggin morning!

As of late, the only DECENT shows CN runs these days would be Storm Hawks, CHOWDER which I find funny despite all the **** that's being run. Thank gods for Toon Disney, considering most of the cartoons, Disney original or not, are damned worth it. Gargoyles, Pinky and The Brain, Batman and Superman TAS, the occasional rerun of SPD and dare I say it, Mystic Force...

I swear, with most of lame cartoons getting go aheads while quality programming gets the axe, its like they're trying to LOSE fans! This is especially evident in Adult Swim. Tim and Eric, 12 oz Mouse, Xavier, the frequent Inu Yasha reruns....its enough to drive a guy to boycott CN and AS as a whole...

Excuse my language but...@*#&ing corporate sons of a #*#&^!!!

Avatar: The Last Airbender really is the only American cartoon with a point lately. So sad. If all cartoons were even half as good as that show, we wouldn't be having this topic of discussion. At least the mounds of anime is finally leveling off.

Thank you, a great series people pass on only because 4kids went censor crazy and kid friendly. As far as other toons, I agree nothing good is on. But since I got into One Piece back in 2000, i've been hooked.

TMNT was up there until they went "Fast Forward".

Another show worth hunting for is "Jane and the Dragon". Is was created by WETA, it's aimed at young kids (5-8) and thus has "moral based stories" but it is one of the most beautiful looking series you will see.

Once we lost Street Sharks, Mighty Max, Biker Mice from Mars, and Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys. Things just went downhill.

Not the world's greatest, but alot better than most of the sh!te out there.

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy makes me laugh too

Cheers,
Doug

PS As for great older 'toons, you can't beat Dexter's Lab
or Invader Zim
