Ebay & minors (under 18)

Hey, does anyone know ebay's policy when it comes to minors? I remember reading somewhere where it says that ebay doesn't allow you to use it if you're a minor. Or is it that you can't use ebay without parental permission/guidance?

I searched ebay, but couldn't find it.

Anyway, reason why I ask is that I could just got an email from someone wanting to buy a videogame off me. He writes an "woe is me" email, stating that he's a "12-year old boy" and can't afford to pay the current amount. He says he only has $20 (which is about 1/4 of the current amount) that he earned from doing chores, and offered that to me. He says to take in account that he's only "12 years old".

So I'm thinking two things:

First, that he's totally making this up and just wants the item for a really low price. Hell, if I were him and making up a fake story, I'd come up with something better, like "I was in a car accident and have to stay in the hospital for awhile"

Second, even if he is a "12-year old kid," he using shouldn't be using ebay in the first place, since I don't think 12-year olds should be using ebay.

Don't worry, I'm not going to sell to this "kid".

What do you think? Anybody have a similar story, or a different story involving ebay and kids?

You cannot use e-bay if you are under 18. Check out User Agreement at bottom of main page. Of course anyone over 18 can lie and any kid under 18 can get in if he really wants to.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Anyway, looks like this might be a kid using his parent's account. This is the user id: dbaker831

If you click on one of the items on the feedback page (provided in the link above), you'll see a mention of "my son has decided the XBOX 360 games are too advanced for him".

I think you can actually report him for trying to make a deal outside of ebay. If you care to or if he tries harassing you, that is.

Yeah, I thought about reporting him, in the fact he's a minor using ebay (abeit using his parent's account).

sounds like he's trying to cheat you out of some money. Personally I'd file an unpaid dispute unless he pays.

Oh, I haven't sold anything to him, so he doesn't owe me any money.
