I am not sure if I should be happy about this or not.
Seeing how they butcher movies now a days, this could be an incredible movie experience or a complete crapfest..

:-?

One rumor has it that Ashton Kutcher is gonna be cast as Keith and Paris Hilton will be Princess Allura.

Rumor perhaps, but true? No. Even the movie company wouldn't be that stupid.

He's not a terrible actor, but he's not good in a drama. She's just...well...heh. Princess Allura is a character well out of her reach, perhaps one of Lotar's whorewenches, but nothing beyond that.

Pharrell is doing the score for the soundtrack, I seriously doubt he'd sign on for a project such as this with a cast such as that.

Please, Primus, NO!!!

I'd say:
Keith: Tom Welling
Hunk: Jack Black
Alura: Emma Bunton
Lance: Johnathan Togo
Pidge: Daniel Radcliff (he looked like Pidge in Harry Potter)
Lotor: Michael Rosenbaum
Zarkon: Tim Curry
Koran: Keifer Sutherland (or Peter Cullen)
and Kane as the Robeast

I don't even know what the hell Voltron is, and even I think that's a bad idea.

Well, as Autobot032 said, Paris Hilton's probably not going to happen. Even if they ever were serious about casting her, they probably can't now that she'll likely be going to jail.

The same rumors that mentioned Paris and Ashton also had Jack Black as Hunk. Michael Chiklis would have been my choice though.

Ashton would be better cast as Lance, not Keith. Kane would kick ass as a robeast! :D

I used to love Voltron as a kid. My main question at the moment is whether it would be a cartoon or live action. Rumors are rumors and until I have facts I don't take too much credence into such rumors.

Last I heard, it is indeed supposed to be a live action film.

I think anything could be turned into something good, if handled correctly. A lot of comic book, video game, cartoon movies that made the transition to the big screen, that failed (Double Dragon, Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros*, etc) weren't handled correctly.

Would they be perfect, or even close to Oscar winning? Of course not, but they'd at least be entertaining to more than just the fringe.

*= I own it on DVD and happen to love it. Not sure why, but I do. I think it's the whole interdimensional thing, and the sets they built (a city out of a rock quarry in southern North Carolina) was what sold the coolness factor to me.

Yes, he wasn't limited to just optimus prime in the 80's he did several voices while he was doing optimus prime.

I would think this if executed correctly would be good.
But, I want to say one thing about Power Rangers and Voltron.
Power Rangers technically did come first in Japan.
Super Sentai, the Japanese version of Power Rangers started in 1976 or 77 and had giant robots and monsters in it in 79's Super Sentai. Voltron, in Japan was GoLion which came out in 1982, so if anything. Golion ripped off Super Sentai. Not the other way around.
