The Metal Thread (and whatever else is music)

I was going to just post a music thread, but, with the background of this forum, I assume we'll end up just discussing Metal bands, so I narrowed the list, but feel free to throw in whatever else. Discuss new bands, old bands, unknown, etc. I wish Operation Ravage was around to discuss 'The History of Metal.' Tour or album updates would be some good things to too-- I'd be damned if I could keep track of every band I know. Youtube links too good songs are great.

Now then...

Metallica's got a new album in the works that hopefully won't suck, though I can't seem to find much...

And I got this stuck in my head...
In Flames - Only For The Weak

According to Dave Draimen Disturbed's new album is going to be extremely dark and pissed off.

Hopefully he means along the lines of the Sickness...or if he means darker, then god I can't wait!!

Anyone else really dig the new Mudvayne song?(no pun intended with the 'dig' comment)...and if you didn't get the 'pun' click this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrBONyFBePc

Also, Shawn Crahan has me extremely pumped for the new Slipknot album.

oh, and you will probably never hear about this band, but I suggest everyone check them out, they are called AntenorA. They are from Cleveland and have one of the most talented singers in modern metal.

http://www.myspace.com/antenoramusic

Dope has a new album in the works as well.

and Wednesday 13 already finished recording his new album titled Skeletons. I guess its going to be less campy and more dark and disturbing.

I can't wait!

I'm just absolutely psyched that they're including their version of Mid Life Crisis. The album is an automatic win.

From what I understand (and check it out to make sure I'm not mistaken), they recorded this song years ago for a Faith No More tribute album that never happened. So the track was just sitting around doing nothing. They even recorded it prior to Ten Thousand Fists. I thought would be included there, even as a b-side. Nothing. But it's coming out on this latest album. =P~

Well, I should say it's PROBABLE it'll be included. I don't think there's any set word on that yet.

You can sort of hear their cover in your mind's ear, and it sounds GOOD. B-)

I've been listening to a lot of Avenged Sevenfold lately. Stuff like "Almost Easy," "Seize The Day," "Bat Country," and "Beast And The Harlot"

And they might not be metal, but my local rock station played Stone Roses' "Love Spreads" yesterday, which made me dig out my old Stone Roses CDs. There's some wicked guitar stuff on "Love Spreads" and "Driving South".

You know what's music?
Rage Against the Machine.
I'm eagerly awaiting any news on a new album, considering they just got back together.

And there's rumors of Led Zepplin doing a world tour...HELL YES!

No, but I was surprised enough when I heard "I don't wanna Stop."
I thought he was out of it till that blasted out.
Sounds awesome too.

i got it the day it came out. i don't wanna stop was a great song, considering ozzies age. lay your world on me was the generic ballard of the cd. and black rain was an obvious shot at the war in iraq. a throwback to his days in sabbath.

all in all, its not blizzard of ozz, or no more tears, but its better then down to earth.....

Ill Nino has Roadrunner hates me syndrome.

Chimaira has it too.

Roadrunner releases them and they start to suck

I'll end up checking out the new one though, just like i did with Chimaira's last abomination

I just bouhgt a ticket for DevilDriver that will be playing on my birthday, in March. The tix are cheap $18, but after Ticketmasterbater has ripped one off, the final price was $27.35.

Either way, I'll be hard rockin' on my 31st B.day!

Wow! And I actually just found out about those guys last month. First time I heard them, they kinda reminder me of Slipknot, except with a bit more instrumentation. You ever been to one of their's before?

Alrite guys, last night I found Deadsy's last album at FYE for 5 bucks used.

It was in great condition.

The music quality is amazing!

Its along the lines of their other album Commencement but Elijah's voice sounds even better and the music quality itself has improved!

And I'm pretty pumped, Wednesday 13 announced a Cleveland date for February!!!

And this time Acey FRIKKIN SLADE is playing guitar for him.

Acey is one of my favorite guitar players.

DevilDriver is playing in Cleveland in April, I'll probably go to that because Dez is one of my heroes

The lead singer for DevilDriver is a dude named Dez. He used to be the front man for Coal Chamber. CC really had it going on in the late '90's(I saw them several times). You knew they could really rock(Big Truck), but there was something missing.

So Dez broke up CC and found the best new talent anywhere. he found these kids while some were still in High School. He started training them. He wanted the best possible sound and wanted them young before they could be corrupted by anyone other than himself. SO with this new blood he created DD. They are the best metal band around at the moment IMHO. Just friggin' hard rockin' metal up your @ss!

The best part about the show on my B.Day is that it's at a small venue. Capacity 500. So I know it'll be a great Birthday for me.

I could never get into either of these bands. I've heard some singles (from soundtracks and whatnot), but they were just okay. Not that these were terrible bands, especially in comparison to lots of other stuff. Just that my taste didn't include them.

People still buy cds? Wow. :P

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the kind if Metal I like ain't the kind most of you guys like. Which is mostly Death Metal and Black Metal. A friend of mine who lives in Austrailia just turned me onto a band called Converge. Their pretty bad ass.

I like some Death and Black metal.

I dig Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, and Old Obituary.

I love Cradle of Filth, I just pict up their first import the other day. However, Cruelty and the Beast is what got me into them.

My issue with most Death metal is comprehension. I want to understand the words. I don't want any baby f#ckin mother humpers, even if the music sounds good, I don't want to bring that kind of crap into my life.

I'm with you dude. Some real good stuff coming out that'a'way too. The new Cobalt record is fantastic. I've probably heard that twice a day for the last 12 days. Just awesome.

Ah, but therein lies the problem my friend. See the reason Death Metal sounds the way it does, is we don't want any god damn outsiders coming into it. You have to be a fan of Death Metal to begin to understand the vocals. And you have to be a regular fan of the band in question to start to understand what the lead singer is saying.

Sweet, I think I'll give Limewi....errrr try to find samples of Cobalt on their offical website. Yeah I'm sure that's what I meant. That's the ticket. Oh, and Dagon?

John Milton - Paradise Lost wrote: ... Next came one
Who mourned in earnest, when the captive ark
Maimed his brute image, head and hands lopt off,
In his own temple, on the grunsel-edge,
Where he fell flat and shamed his worshippers:
Dagon his name, sea-monster, upward man
And downward fish; yet had his temple high
Reared in Azotus, dreaded through the coast
Of Palestine, in Gath and Ascalon,
And Accaron and Gaza's frontier bounds

Are we talking death and black like Emperor, Burzum, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Fintroll, and Martyr? Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, Gorgoroth, Behemoth, In Flames, Arch Enemy, etc? I generally go for that.

And, though I still don't think you can categorize them for anything, Meshuggah still is a favorite of mine. Most I've talked to just think they're **** up, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5A0q63_gbo

And, yes, that is their music video.

But, oddly enough, I started just going to the extremes of the genre for instrumental talent, but, after listening to the 'hard' stuff for about a month, I was like... holy crap... I can understand Emperor!

Megadeth and Blind Guardian have released their newest efforts over the last year and bit, Deth's was Ok, but BGs was amazing.
I'm looking forward to this year's Gigantour where Megadeth, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Job for a Cowboy, and High on Fire are playing.
I'd be pumped to see Deth on stage with CoB!
