What computer OS do you people use?

Well before i start:-
Disclaimer
Just cause I moved from XP doesn't mean i thinks Windows sucks, its just my comp got too old and slow to handle it properly.
I've just recently moved to the Linux based Ubuntu V7.10 after finding my Laptop was just too slow to run Windows XP SP2 anymore (regardless of what i did to keep it going), mainly during movies, but really just browsing the net would cause it probs, however after moving to Ubuntu it still slows, just not as much.
So i was wondering what Seib users run on their computers, now I'm not meaning this to become a OS flaming thread, just a thread to see what OS's people like to use.

I use Kubuntu. Because GNOME is awful.
Leaving Windows behind was the best OS choice I ever made.
I also use Kanotix on my USB flash drive while on the move. It's a nice easy way of using other people's computers without having to use their operating system.
There are a few people I know with keyloggers installed on Windows as well, so it's a great way of making sure that all your information is safe if you have to use someone else's machine.

I use Windows XP.
Now, remember kids, PC stands for Personal Computer, which actually
includes Macs. So nobody say their OS is a "PC", okay?

Spare me the anti-Vista rants.

I'm getting a new computer system in a few months and was still thinking Dell and it looks like there is no choice but to have Vista on it but what don't you like about Vista ?
Thanks Burn.

From what I've heard, the first problem is that the version of Vistas out there now is still the beta version. Microsoft is apparently infamous for using its customers to test its new OS software.
Secondly, apparently Vistas has a problem running older PC and online games (i.e. the ones that came out before Vistas). The games apparently don't load, for some reason.
That's just what I've heard.
I still use Windows XP for my OS. Since my next CPU tower is likely to be a home build, that's probably what I'll use next time as well.

XP. And only XP. Has the reliability of Windows 2000 but a bit more pizazz and/or flare.

Man I wish someone would give me a Mac so I could at least try and see why the OS's for them are so beloved. Things seem to have really improved since I last used one in 1998.

Vista, it's not bad once you get used to the new stuff. The biggest fuss I had was getting all the programs I needed for college to work.
After I got all those to work, it's fine.

Vista Ultimate Retail on my main computer, Vista Home Premium OEM on the Dell laptop and FreeBSD on the server.

Vista Home Basic. And, honestly, once I turned off User Account Control, I never had another problem again. I don't get all the bad things people say about it.

Your real life name wouldn't happen to be either "Kevin Kenney" or "Doug Henry," would it?

There isn't really anything I don't like about Vista, except for User Account Control which should be turned off IMMEDIATELY.
The major problems with Vista seems to stem mostly from people using machines too old to run them. And you need to be careful, just because you're getting a new machine doesn't mean it'll have the guts to run it.

This is the only problem I have with Vista, it is not faster than XP. Mac actually showed what an OS upgrade should be, installing Tiger over Leopard actually improves performance by around 5%. It's not a lot in terms of percentage improvements, but this is what OS system upgrades should do, like back in the old days. Speaking of the old days, I tried to install Windows 1.0 on top of XP, but it didn't work...old school File Manager FTW!
I personally use XP and Linux for work, and XP and Mac OS X for home (though I personally consider Mac OS X Unix with the best Unix GUI).

Well.. Berkley Unix anyway. Not the AT&T Unix that most use now, but still a *nix variant.
And Vista
did run faster on my AMD X2 than XP did.
Games might perform a tic slower, but the
OS does perform faster, especially after superfetch gets used to how you use it.
I haven't even tried XP on my Core 2 Quad, and I'm not about to either.

Which is why I didn't type UNIX in all caps Mr. Semantics.

What the hell are you people talking about?
I haven't understood a word of this thread outside of someone killing someone else with stress(nice, that's unprovable usualy in court).
So I ask, what the hell is going on here?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be condescending at all. In fact I'm quite happy that there are Apple users who have a clue about what's behind the fancy interface. With the Apple users I deal with occasionally it's a very uncommon trait.

We used Berkley back in college and I've always preferred it, even when I was a Solaris Systems Engineer, so anytime I can point out that Berkley still is useful I'm more than happy to.

If you don't know what a computer OS is then I recommend you leave the internet.
Now.

I'm not really a Mac user, I happend to have one at home along with a machine running XP and another machine running Linux, and I'm actually a certified HP-UX system administrator. My point is that before Mac OS X, you couldn't do anything on a command line, and now with OS-X, you can...and the GUI is good.
