I finally got it!! :D I cannot believe how slow dial up is compared to this. I also cannot believe how people say this company is slow compared to cable. It is still really fast.

DSL I take it? DSL is slower, but not by much. The difference is pretty much in the price.

But welcome to the world of High Speed. You're now open to multiplayer games, bit torrent, and downloads that don't take five hours for a 100MB file. Unfortunately, you only have a short time before it really sets in. (High speed withdrawal seems funny, until you begin lashing out at everything around you because things take too long to load)

Congrats on your new-found joy of the internet! Enjoy it to the fullest! Go download a torrent or something! :)

As far as DSL vs. cable speaking speed-wise, there are some areas where DSL speeds FAR surpass that of cable...and I happen to live in one of those areas....My high-speed DSL kicks the crap out of the cable internet everyday of the week and twice on Sunday! :)

Where I live, the difference in speed is quite minimal. However, while calbe is slightly faster, DSL is slightly more reliable. We got cable because the package came with a phone line (And we were able to keep our old phone number, too), and TV.

Ooh, getting cable TV back was like a breath of fresh air.

I watched the first 3 episodes of Transformers, logged on to some game that Jack loves to play and listened to some songs. I got to go on one of those preschool sites so Jessica could play some games and it did not take an hour for the thing to download.

congrats :)

I used to have DSL and have cable now, like it was mentioned earlier, the only times dsl is slower is if your farther way from one of the DSL "transmitters" (know thats not the actual name for them lol ) and like was also mentioned, if your closer to one of those it does kick cables ass.

Well, it probably is slower than cable. It's just faster than dial up.

It like saying "I used to have a horse and buggy, and now I got a ferrari. I can't believe people are saying a ferrari is slow compared to a hyperdrive warp engine because this ferrari is really fast."

:-P

Don't worry about how fast something is compared to another. All that matters is, you're not on dial up anymore.

Now, if you're using Comcast, beware. They will suddenly charge you twice as much after a few months and say "Oh it was just a promo deal."

I actually decided to go back to dial up when that happened, because I couldn't afford their regular rate, and AT&T was acting stupid so I decided I'd just stick with dial up because at least it's something.

So I called up Comcast and said "I want to quit" and they said "Is there any particular reason" and I said "I can't afford your regular rates" and they said "If we just lower you back to our promo rate will you stay?" and I of course said I would.

So you might be able to fanagle them to your price range. I don't know how long that will last though. So far so good.

I've said "So far so good," before, and then everything usually goes wrong at once. It has the same effects as "It's quiet...too quiet..." and "How could this get any worse?"

I used to work for comcast, thats totally true. the have a dept called retention, that lowers rates for customers who call in and say they are going to cxl their service.

This is just a small DSL company. Their main business is ranch and farm supply. They heard the cry for DSL that did not cost a fortune for people like me out in the middle of nowhere.
I am in fact very close to the tower. It is maybe a block away.

Congrats for joining the DSL world. I have had a DSL/cable modem for 4 years from Qwest...I love it even though it makes my phone bill higher than it used to be.

That's one of the reasons I hate school (apart from being surrounded by brain dead, labotmised, shaved apes).

The high speed connection on the library computers.

Means when I go mooch my mum's phone line for my dial up its' painfully slow. It seems so much more intolerable, that and that crappy bubble screen of hers - seriously, flat screen monitors cause you to go into detox when you try and play Civ 4 on a bubble screen!!

Yay for high speed!
