I read-
Dr. Suess
Captian Underpants
Dumb Bunnies
Arthur
Fairy Tales
Goosebumps
Animorphs( I think...)
And there was this book series where a girl solved crimes( NOT Nancy Drew) and used her memory to help out just by saying "click".

Jurassic Park, Congo, Sphere, the Star Wars books, AvP novels, TMNT comics, Ghostbuster comics, the Valiant Nintendo comics, Dr. Seuss, Encyclopedia Brown, Boxcar Children.

There were a bunch of fantasy and sci-fi books I also read, but I can't think of em.

Encyclopedias

Seriously.

I think the first books I read were "In a People House" and "Are You My Mother". After that, it was the "Big Book of Dinosaurs" and then Encyclopedias.

Oddly enough, they had put me in remedial reading classes in Kindergarden. One of those teachers noticed something wrong and had me tested for the "Gifted" program.

It was 12 years of doing insanely little work for excellent grades from there on out.

Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew (yes, Nancy Drew). In high school I turned to fantasy novels and comic books.

I read the Necronomicon.

In terms of real books, I read the Hitchhiker's "Trilogy," a handful of Goosebumps books, Harry Potter (Which I was quite opposed to, right until I gave in and read it) and by eighth grade, I has started on The Hobbit, then Lord of the Rings. (Finished in ninth grade)

Urm, lot's, lot's of books.

Started with sciencey/history/naturey/dinosaur ones. Nancy Drew and Famous 5(I know, I know!) were probally the first story books. Quickly moved onto The Hobit and read LOTR when I was 9 *I remember, I was moving house at the time* Then Dragonlance, Hitchhikers guide, Harry Potter, Jurrasic Park, Starwolf, you know, really geeky ones.

I aint read a book in years....

I was always an avid reader... I remember reading encyclopedias and mystery books, I loved reading the "Land of Xanth" series by Piers Anthony as well as the "Apprentice Adept" series. Another series I enjoyed reading was the "Spell Singer" series by Allen Dean Foster. I've read a lot of books on monsters... Stephen King... And who can forget my Anne Rice collection...

When I was really young, Dr. Seuss and that style of thin hardcover book, Bottersnikes and Gumbles (which now gets an astronomical price). After that, Choose Your Own Adventure, Fighting Fantasy, Which Way (all those make-your-own-story books), and comics.

There was also this series of books with a pair of kid detectives, and one would sketch out the crime scene, then you'd look at the picture and figure out what was wrong with the character's alibi. Can't remember the name of it.

This thread is making me feel too nostalgic.

In addition to Hardy Boys, Encylopedia Brown, and Judy Blume books, I was an avid reader of Choose Your Own Adventure books. My favorite of all of them was a bout a rally race in Africa (similar to the Dakar rally). I remember it gave you the option of what kind of car you wanted to drive. I always took the Lancia Stratos. What the other car was I can't remember. Those kinds of books were an endless source of entertainment for me. I read them over and over until I could figure out how to get to the best ending. That kind of participation seems to be missing form books these days.

I had quite a Goosebumps collection. The show came on the tail end of my fascination with it. I also read some Judy Blume. I read a lot about animals, too. I had an entire animal encyclopedia. I read a bunch of misc. books as well.

Loved CYOA books... did anybody read the Dungeons and Dragons versions? On a TF note, I have the Transformers collection of them too.

I also read Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, Ramona, and Ribsy among others. My mom was a librarian for most of my young life so I read books, books, and more books.

I also read a lot of the comic books/funny collections like MAD, Garfield, Snoopy/Peanuts/Charlie Brown. Also X-Men, and New Mutants were my favorite other comics were also favorites.

I also enjoyed the BFG, and other Roald Dahl books.

My all time favorites to read when I was a teen though were John Saul books, Stephen King books, and Wendy and Richard Pini's Elfquest books.

I remember my first book was the Hungry Caterpillar. Other than that it was some hardy Boys and a lot a non-fiction, anything about sharks. Sharks were a hobby of mine as a kid.

Anyone remember those old TF Choose Your Own Adventures? I had a couple of those, one about the Dinobots where Megatron takes control of all of them but Swoop and one that had to do with Bumblebee being underwater. I could add them to my list.

I still have the Dinobots book somewhere. I liked Choose Your Own Adventure books. And hands down, the best ones I ever read were the ones shown below:

These books rocked the house because you had to solve some pretty engaging puzzles if you wanted to see which choice was the best to make. There were only 12 books in the entire series, and two were based on Link and Zelda. All of them were very well written.

I can't believe I forgot about the man himself. I read a ton of Roald Dahl books in grade 1. My teacher was crazy for these books. We read: The BFG, The Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, James and the Giant Peach, Danny Champion of the World, and The Twits. If there were others I don't remember them now, but all these listed books were a great influence at the time.

I also used to read a series of books about different kinds of dogs, in adventure type stories, but I cannot remember their names. :???: Similar to "Where the Red Fern Grows" but the dog was even more central a character.
