it's a stupid non holiday that people use to pull stupid and sometimes hurtful practical jokes. the stupid news jokes they play here should stop.

Whats not to like about a day where you're encouraged to play a prank on people? The more elaborate and creative the better.

Hm, creative, but then again people kinda expect it, especially if it's from someone who's a joker.

A radio station in our area said on Friday a couple years ago (Monday being April Fools) that they were being replaced with two new guys, who, when you go to the site for the radio, the two guys were apparently pig farmers. They had they're first show Monday, and they sucked. Big time. Tuesday, the normal guys came back, April Fools, haha.

Oh don't worry, you're not alone. I think it's absolutely ridiculous and a waste or precious time.

Before anyone says anything:

1.) Yes, I'm stuck in my ways and I'm quite the prick who needs to take a chill pill and relax. Yada yada yada.

2.) I haven't been "burned" by an April Fools Joke, prompting me to hate this day. I hate it simply because it's ridiculous to watch people go out of their way to make a pointless and unfunny spectacle.

I'd love to find the person(s) responsible for this idea and promptly kick their testicles in.

A few years back they were in the process of tearing down the local cinema to put up a bank, the local radio station decided to have a joke and got blue and white tape and cordoned off the construction site then started to spread a rumour that a body had been found during demolition.

Quite funny I thought. But then again, I know how to laugh ...

I'm extremely anti April Fool's day jokes as well. Some of my close friends have today as their birthday and they're not fond of the jokes either so I've just learned to do the opposite on this day.

Chalk me up as another person who hates April Fools' Day.

I have been both physically and mentally hurt by mean-spirited pranks in the past. I don't see why I should suck that up and take that as a joke, because it's not.

Nowadays I'm aware enough to take everything on April 1 with a grain of salt. But it's still irritating, as it wastes the entire day and causes problems when you're studying everything you read/hear trying to figure out if it's real or not, or watching to ward off pranks.

I should note that I most definitely have a sense of humor, and I greatly enjoy joking around when I *know* it's a joke. But I very much don't like being lied to, mislead, made to look like a fool, or treated cruelly in the name of "humor". I spent too much time being bullied as a kid to brook it as an adult, even if a prank is supposedly meant in good spirits.

Yeah, today's my dad's birthday. He takes it pretty lightly, though. probably the worst I've ever done as a prank was to trap my little brother in the laundry bin, for a couple of seconds, twice in a row. But of course, I once got trapped in the dryer when I was his age. (my sister's fault, She wanted me to see if the light stayed on when the door shut, so she put me in and kept me there for two miniutes) But as long as you don't dao anything rally mean-spirited, then it can be a nice holiday.

I like it, but I live in a stiff city. No good crap goes down here. *sigh* I'm gonna emo all over this thread till someone shows me a good prank.

I don't mind April Fools - although since I finished school and started university, I lost most of the fooling opportunity thanks to not having to get out of bed until late in the morning. Oh well, when I'm working next year, I'm sure I'll get back into it.

Frankly if I hated a day of the year because people made fun of me and picked on me then i'd hate every day of the year.

But I learnt to take a joke, I learnt to roll with it, and I learnt to have fun myself. Perhaps some people should learn to do that. They should also learn that if they only get picked on one day a year, then it's a good year.

I spent almost all of my childhood like that... I'm glad I don't have to deal with it any more.

There's a difference between people laughing *with* you and having them laugh *at* you. IMHO it's awful that people should ever have to learn to put up with the latter.

But, I'm reminded another reason why I hate April Fools'... I always end up making people think I'm a stick-in-the-mud when I'm usually not.

My friend showed me this, and I think so far it has been the best joke of the day.

I know where you're coming from. Here's my story. Read through it and see if anything is familiar.


Basically, I was in a group project at school, and one of us was out of town with his girlfriend. We were all supposed to meet up April 1 to finish it, so he tries to call me and say "I'm not gonna make it in." I didn't give him an inch, so we just ended up playing it on this chick in our group. She was so pissed off that he wasn't coming in just so he could hang out with his girlfriend for another day. It was hilarious.

Then, to get him back after he did come in, she and I pretended that the due date for the project was Wednesday the 2nd instead of Friday the 4th, to make him panic all evening, but he wasn't worried at all. When he was about to call his job and change his work schedule around, I told him it was a joke.


Let me guess, the kind of jokes you're talking about, they would have let you go ahead and screw up things at work with a fake out schedule. That would have been funny to them, right?

I had the sense to call it off before things got too ugly.

Well... sorta. Basically, I hate any time I end up acting on false/missing information, even if the person in question retracts it before I do any serious damage. I just don't have the time or patience to deal with it... I just want to be able to get the correct information I need, act on it, then get on with the next thing.

So whether they "called it off" in time or not, I'd be irritated either way. I just don't find it amusing. If someone wants to joke around with me in a way that doesn't make me look like an idiot or cause me to make mistakes, no problem. But I hate when people prank, mislead, or lie to me.
