This is concerning...

So here's my rant for the month.

I've met many a foreign national in the health care setting who tell me "NZL nurses are some of the best in the world, you can get a job anywhere". My lecturers tell me the same thing.

But some of the people in my class... holy crap on a stick. Its like I'm dreaming, surroudned by labtomised shaved apes.

As an example of blatant stupidity, lecturer asked "whats the SA node made out of"... basically the SA node is something in the heart that assists in the electrical current and beat. A girl behind me says "adrenaline".

You don't have to be a genius to know, she's a moron.

And this is a 3rd year student. We only have three years in the programme!! Including 2 science papers in year one and pathophysiology in yr 3, and yes, she had taken that paper.

Now I could go into a long winded description of this girl's stupidity, and her little blond friends who hang aroudn with her like flies on ****, but if you know nothing about medicine or nursing, here's something that will make you wonder....

Discussing the matter of reading ECGs, the equation 5x5 is helpful in getting the sequencing right. The girl behind me...

"Well, what's 5x5 then?"

On that one I turned around and gave her my "You stupid dunce" look.

That's not what concerns me, there's a guy in the year below me, he'd be in my class were it not for his scholistic failings.

If it weren't for the stupidity of a cop who didn't dot his i's and cross his t's that man would be serving 15 - life for almost killing a guy, twice his age and half his size (the student guy is like 40).

He's also a dirty racist and incredibly sexist! And he stated in the most foulest way possible that I need a man, not Transformers.

WTF? Not needing Transformers? Away with you, sir!!

I'm sorry for the upsetting times, but I just have to compliment you on what is perhaps the most well-written rant to ever grace Seibertron.com.

Well done!

Indeed! Poohy, that was hilarious..sad at the same time but hilarious too.

If they allowed that much room for a sig quote the entire post might be used as my new quote BUT unfortunately I must use "moldys" until after TF2 comes out...just read my sig quote and anyone will see why! *snicker*

I like to think I hold the prize for the worst-written rant...

But I know what you mean, Negare. I live with a few medical students, and a few nursing students, and the things I hear at dinner time are not helping my rampant fear of hospitals one bit. Things like "I really have no idea how the f*ck I'm supposed to know where the liver is" or "So I was doing that anatomy class earlier, and I broke the cadaver's lungs". Then there's an ex of mine who I'm still friendly with, who's currently finishing her second year of medicine, and loves to regale me with tales of the latest organ she's managed to misplace in the anatomy labs.
Oh sweet ****, this is the future.

Oh I have plenty of the same types of stories as I work in a hospital operating room but one more so on the humorous side was not too long ago there was an "anomalous" number written next to a patients name on the surgical board ( a giant dry erase board ) and it confused one of the nurses...the odd number was 91 and she said "91? what is 91 supposed to mean?" her name is Geri and my nickname for her already is Geriatrics as she's getting up there in age so I told her that the number 91 was the average age of the staff in the o.r.... I'm considerably younger than most of them so as I walked away she just said "that's soooo cold"

If anyone is REALLY daring ask me about the "blender incident" but consider yourselves fairly WARNED and it is so bad it will ONLY be sent in a P.M.!

Very concerning indeed. Although one of the schools in my city has a very strict nursing program. They have to learn their stuff. Less than a 3.0 GPA and they're dropped from the program. Very stressful there. It's made a few of my friends break down and cry on several occasions.

And Galvatron, I want the blender story. I'm ready. Do your worst.

Isn't the SAN a bundle of neurone endings or something similar?

We've only touched briefly on the SAN for a-level...
