PC/Vista experts required

Ok, under XP when you visited a site with lots of pictures, like here at Seibertron (or porn sites 8) ), when you used to go into the temporary internet files all the pictures from the website were there (all the little banners and all the website content basically)

this was handy if you wanted to save a lot of pictures to your hard drive but didnt want to click 'save picture as' each time, you just clicked each imageto view it , then filtered the temp internet files by size and usually the larger jpegs appeared at the top, so you just copied them to your desired destination...

Now with Vista, ive found the Temp files, but there is hardly anything there, no jpegs and pretty much nothing from recently visited sites...can anyone tell me where the 'proper' temp internet files are?

Did a quick search for you and came up with this:

%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low

Apparently retrieving files from IE7's cache in protected mode is a pain. I can't say I've tried it myself though as I don't use it.

Anyhoo, I'm not going to boot into Vista to check this so I don't know if it will work.

hmmmm I don't seem to have that. And I went all the way through the AppData folder too.

Silly Burn's Vista.

I had a look at my vista partition

C:/Users/ijuintekka/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files/Low/Content.IE5/

Is where IE dumps its load for certain.

All the files are in different numbered directories. With names like 5LAN62RR or BXZWTXO2.

Obviously just replace ijuintekka with whatever your username is.

It really isn't there.

Firefox's is though. This is quite odd indeed. Remind me again how we tell it to view all hidden files? (Even though i'm sure i've already done that)

-edit-
Found it.

Click on Tools - Folder Options - View tab - Set it to "Show Hidden files and folders"

It'll turn up then.

hmm i found this C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\Low\Temporary Internet Files

but it was completely empty, like i said i can view my temp files, go into IE, into tools, internet option, click on setting under Browsing History, then click view files, but on mine there is only a few meg of stuff, not nearly enough to be my actual temp files, considering the websites ive looked at today alone...i just dont get it

I don't know what else to say. I swear to god they're there.

Here's proof:

It's probably one of Vista's security features.

They're probably hidden. Follow the instructions in my last post.

well i have 'show hidden files' switched on, and like i said, i can find where IE7 keeps the temp files, but there just doesnt seem to be enough of them there, not compared to what ive been browsing

'cause you're looking in the wrong place.

Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files.

You're looking in the Temp folder.

I think your best course of action is to get a better browser. I haven't been able to abide IE ever since it used to totally lock up W98 whenever it froze.

I know a lot of people don't like to hear others go on about how awful IE is, and believing it to be a waste of time to download something else. But really you're only looking at a couple of megs to download Firefox or Opera, and either one of those will give you more control over what you can and can't do.

Oh I have a question. Do you have "show protected/system files" enabled as well as "hidden" files?

Try putting the location directly into the address bar and hit enter.

C:\Users\Chug\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\

I'm sure they must be there so they may be hidden no matter what.

...You actually save temp internet files? Weird, I've been wiping those to save space for years.
