I doubt many of you have had the pleasure of playing this ps2 game. Since its a japanese release only. But boy oh boy does this game overload with mecha fanboyism.

just look at the huge list of mecha series included.

It's a turn base game with nice looking sprites and well, some story. But I am at a loss on what that story might be since I can't read kanji for shizzle.

Too bad I don't know half the cast so far. Many old series I've never seen before.

It's interesting how you can pick from 4 different main characters (2 dudes, 2 chicks) who each have their own mecha and different opening missions. For example I started the game with a cool looking dude with a cool looking cape wearing mech. All his attacks were over the top and dramatic, really super robot style. Then after 4 missions I read some stuff on gamefaq's and picked the other dude. Who started with a very gundam like mech and uses a big gun and beam saber. Then the next mission I got a new chick (same hair colour and uniform) in a new mech. The third mission both of them linked up in one squad in some dramatic in game cutscene. So now I have both the chick And the dude (who is suddenly in a completely new gundamish mech btw, dunno why that is) kicking alien robot tailpipe.
So selecting your main character in that game has quite the effect.

Have you played as Getter Robo G (That's me! Getter Dragun!)? I heard he was the most powerful character in the game.

I haven't seen him yet, no doubt he'll join the fight sooner or later (probally later because of his power).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrWB26_X0SA this is of SWR alpha 2 but it seems to use the same sprites. That "Mazinger z" joins up early in the game and he comes with some other chick.

I think I found out why Getter Dragun is the most powerful, it was one of the largest of all the Super Robots, except for like Groizer X. Getter Dragun was even bigger than Mazinger by almost twice the suze. One of the benefits of Getter Robo G is that all 3 modes make up for the weaknesses of the others.

Gaiking and Macron 1 are playable! I'm buying SRW @2 so I hope they're playable in that one too. :D

One of the bigger surprises was the arrival of Temjin, Fei Yen, and Apharmd from Virtual ON

More surprising: Their 'pilots' are technically the players of Virtual On in the real world, or so I hear.

Anyway, I've been tempted to get a japanese PS2 just for this game (though I don't think that's entirely necessary at this point...) I mean, almost every Gundam series (excluding X, Turn A, and G), Ideon, Gunbuster, Genesic GaoGaiGar, Evangelion, practically all of Macross....

Frankly, the only thing I'm not too keen on is the lack of Masoukishin in @3. Yeah,I know WHY they aren't in it, but I still wish they were. Because Psybuster is awesome.

Then again, I have SRW 4 and Gaiden. I shouldn't complain.

hmm i know it would be freaking huge, but i wonder how big an srw game would be if they were to include every robot ever used in all the srw series in a single game or for that matter every robot owned by bandai/banapresto

Ah yes, Alpha 3....I really should play it again....But the eighth playthrough is bound to be a little repetitive. I'll just continue on W for awhile.

Either I misread your post or you're a little off. According to Alpha 3, the pilots of the Virtual On characters are you, the person playing Alpha 3.

I thought the things controlling the virtual on robots were AI constructs, cause there were no pilots in Virtual On: Mars game, but they did speak

I'll defer to you on that one, as my information is second hand off a FAQ. That, and I know very, very little about Virtual On to begin with.

i own this game, it's something i play every day <3 i love the fact that you can even change pilots from their mechas as long as it comes from the same universe..... SRW@3's moment of zen. Roy Fokker, Hikaru Ichijo (Rick Hunter) and Kakizaki (Ben Dixon) using the VF-19's from Macross 7.

and BTW getterdragun, getter robo G is not the only getter in this game (and not the most powerful) :P....
there's black getter and Shin Getter \m/

he and mazinkaiser are my 2 main hitters, followed by GaoGaiGar and whatever Original character i'm using.... tho, special kudos go to Daizengar, Aussenseiter, and DaiRaiOh <3 <3 <3

The more I start to progress in this game (thank you internet for providing me with some basic menu translation! )and the more I start to understand of it the more and more I love this game.
I just can't stand those super robots... Rocket boobs?! Groin missiles? Jo-jo's? It's hilariously stupid :P So glad I picked the Cobray Realistic robot route (even though the whole super robot crew joined my group again *sigh* :P )

That's just awesome. The macross plus guys joined me already. Just waiting on the SDF macross guys.
The moment I see the Macross 7 guys i'll be killing them personally though... with a groin jojo missile.
Damn I hate those guys.

I'm honestly surprised you didn't pick Selena's route, Spoon. What with the screen-shaking breast bounce and all.

Thankfully Seolla makes up for it a bit.
"Oxtongue rifle, dual modooo! Shuuuuuuuto!" Dual mode indeed babe, after you are done pwning the enemy, mind if I hug the twins?
*cough*

I'm not progressing very fast through the game though. Just passed the only story bit of Macross Plus and done a long multiple stage with some huge ugly boss dude and Gaogaigar story related stuff. Really wish someone would translate this though, i'm missing out on the story line :(
