I'm sorry but

1. This is old news. I learned about kryptonite my Freshmen year of high school, that was 7 years ago. On top of that Superman's kryptonite was named after the real stuff so it's been known longer than the comics.

2. What does this have to do with Transformers?

No, you have seen non-TF stuff in the General Discussion Forum. You put this in the TF General Discussion.

And, Kryptonite did exist before the initial concept of Superman and Krypton. It is why they named the planet that.

Really? I remember the element Krypton, but I don't remember Kryptonite.

Under normal chemical nomenclature the -ite suffix would denote a compound (e.g. the compound uranite contains the element uranium). Thus the name implies that kryptonite is a compound and not an element (something supported by the "tar" analysis in the third Superman movie). This issue is normally overlooked in the comic books, but a non-canonical game sourcebook did refer to kryptonite as "the common ore of the super-actinide Kryptonium, an unusually stable transuranic element, whose atomic number is believed to be 126." The half-life of kryptonium is listed as 250,000 years.

It's overlooked because allthough it's named after something real the comic Kryptonite is not real. Real Kryptonite isn't glowing green or glowing red or whatever other kind of glowing colors there are. (Mostly green but the red appears some times and Red allways has a different effect on Superman depending on what version you're watching/reading.)

It's not old news. The news is that they found a compound that had the same make-up (bar one element, I think) as the Kryptonite in the film Superman Returns. That is not old news.
