I found this article that says Johnny Depp will be the next villian.

Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer said they didn't want the Penguin. The character is way too cartoony. And Phillip Seymour Hoffman denied the rumor anyway.

But this is the Riddler we're talking about, and Johnny Depp isn't a bad choice. The man is a terrific character actor.

I think there's a way to make the Penguin "non-cartoony" without going to go down the same route as Tim Burton. Maybe a saavy businessman with underworld connections, sort of like what Timm did in the Batman "Gotham Knights" series...

As for the Riddler, I think they need to go a different route that the classic Gorshin version, which was more like the Joker of that era, aside from his riddle gimmick. Make him a cunning, yet more even handed character, more like John Glover's depiction in the animated Batman series.

I'm sure Nolan has a few ideas for these characters that fit into the dark "universe" he created for this series.

Depp can act. There's no denying that. but going for a darker Riddler, I'd want someone else. Depp would probably have been Riddler in Burton's Batman Forever had Burton stayed on, given Depp has been in many of Burton's films.

Besides, we need Depp to continue doing that drunken pirate act of his in POTC4.

Penguin was cartoony in Batman Returns... in a very sick Burtony way. Really... would you take a 5ft tall madman seriously that rode around in motorized Duck car?

On the subject of the Batman movies: Anyone think L. Fox has a second Tumbler hidden somewhere just in case?

Scarface would be sweet. I love clayface but thats extreme cartooony Firefly, throw in some gangsters and scarecrow.

Since Johnny Depp play Willy Wonka......I would love 4 him to be the Mad Hatter since that character neva had a spotlight in the batman universe like talkin about but either way, i wont mind Depp 2 be in it.

Oh, no, no, no, no... I hope there isn't another pirates movie in the making. 3 is plenty.

That franchise stopped for me after the second movie. As far as I'm concerned the third one doesn't exist.

On topic, with the right writing they could do any of the villains without them becoming caricatures, tbh.

When I think of Johnny Depp I always think of his role in 21 Jumpstreet. I know that was ages ago so I have no clue why.

I forgot that he was even on that show. Damn, he's old.

Does that mean I am old for remembering that show?

I still think David Tenant would be a better choice for Riddler. He could portray a Riddler that would blow your minds.

Also, why Penguin?!?!?!?? He seems to be a little too cartoony for the Dark Knight films. Bane would be a much better choice.

I didn't say that I was young myself.

It's like he doesn't age physically...
