Iphone opinions

Hello all, I'm looking to get out of my already dying provider and get a new phone. I've been considering the Iphone with AT&T, but I've heard alot of people complaining that the service with AT&T sucks. Primary reason I want the IPhone is so that I don't have to carry my Ipod and cell phone and pop my laptop out to use the internet to come to Seibertron. I've been holding out as long as possible, but my phone is currently dropping calls so much that I've actually lost a client today because they thought I kept hanging up on them.
Anyone have experience with the phone or recommendations? If I were going with the phone I would go with the larger size, primarily because I have 32 gig ipod right now that is almost maxed out. My phone has an upgradable sd chip to 2 gigs, but the sound quality on it was so poor I just used it for the phone. I do use alot of texting so I would like to get the opinion on that as well. Thanks

i was like you considering the iphone but then after reserching i realized i should go to Verizon. I have had no troubles and there are phones under their plans that do the exact thing as an Iphone like play music and surf the web. I got an Ipod though just for when i don't need the phone and just want music. Like at the gym or doing yard work.

I was in the same boat, but again the At&T plan was just not good for me. So I picked up a less stellar phone form Verizon and an Ipod Touch. Quite cheap these days.
The Touch will do everything the Iphone will except for the actual phone features.
So you can surf the web in its nice big screen and very cool browser, install cool apps, handle contacts, notes, email etc..
I basically ended up using the Touch as a PDA and have my phone on the side for calls and text messages.

Thanks for all of the advice all. For those of you that went to Verizon, may I please inquire on what phones you have? I was wondering if also anyone here has put their hands on the G1.

I've had Verizon now for about 2 years. My cell is a LG flip phone, which model name escapes me at the moment. I'll upgrade around december probably, but havent had a chance to see the new models for Verizon.

I have several friends who love the iPhone - but I can't find anyone who will recommend AT&T (regardless of phone). I would stick with what others have said. I have the iPod Touch and love it. I basically use it for almost everything except calls and text. I have also heard they are making a Skype app for the iPod Touch (and iPhone). So if you get the newer iPod Touch you can make calls anywhere there is wi-fi (using mic/head phone combo that blugs into the jack).
Personally I like having my phone separate so that I don't have to worry about using too much battery life listening to music and checking the web so that I can't take a call.....

I had Verizon for 6 years. The service was okay but they never seemed to have any really cool phones. I was interested in the first version of the i-phone but was still locked into my Verizon contract. Once the 3G came out I was ready to jump ship and boy am I glad I did. Here's why:
1. I haven't had any problems at all dropping calls.
2. Even the Edge network is fast enough for simple web browsing. When you can get 3G or WiFi going, it's fantastic.
3. Other phones may be able to "do the same things" as the i-phone, but there's just no substitute for the thousands of slick applications you can get through the App Store.
4. If there's one thing that they got right, it's the touch screen. I've tried the instinct and the Dare and neither of them even come close when it comes to responsiveness.
Sure it had it's problems when it was first released but after the latest firmware release, the battery life has been extended and I'm not experiencing any keyboard slowness. It may not had the best camera out there either but it's plenty good enough for me. (for a phone)
In short, it's by far the best phone I've ever owned and I can't imagine having anything else right now. With new apps being released every week, it's always changing and always new.
Of course, that's just my opinion. Good luck in your decision. Just make sure you try using the iPhone a little bit before you try going with Verizon.

Thank you all for your opinions and views, I do appreciate the input. I will be shopping this weekend and I'll let you know what I've decided.
