Should I get a ipod touch?

Well now that I have a job, I have alot of extra money. Every paycheck I put some in the bank, some in my wallet and some for my xmas fund. I have around $350 saved for gifts so I figure I could buy a touch with my extra money. Now that I can get one for $230 should I? Is it worth it? I like the y-fi and stuff I'm just wondering if it's worth it or should I just get a nano? Also is the screen easy to scratch? That's one of my main concerns.

I've got the 32gb Touch and I love it. The screen is very durable and you don't need a protector. I only put one on mine because it came with the case I bought.
You won't be dissapointed.

From what i have seen it has some cool features but the big thing you have to ask yourself is...do you feel lucky? no that's not it. How much are you going to put on it? The size drive can play a big factor in with iPod/iTouch to get. If you don't mind lower gigs for you pod then and iTouch would be a nice way to go, otherwise I would consider the newer iPod with 120gb drives.

Mine's 32gb and that's plenty of space. 120gb seems a little excessive unless you're using it as a music server for the house.

Why not just go one more step and get an iPhone? I have an iPhone, and find it quite fun, and functional.

anyway I like the phone I have now so a touch is fine. I'll prolly wait til black friday and see if they have any good deals. But I'll prolly make my choice in the next few months before it becomes hard to come by in stores. Do you guys think the price will drop any more? I mean I doubt apple will do it but is it possible that some retailers will sell them off cheap on Black Friday?

I don't know about black friday deals, but my girlfriend got a refurbished 8 gig ipod touch a few months back and it works fine.
So that's an option also if you want to save a few bucks.

while I find the touch/iphone a fascinating piece of technology, I really hate Apple with a passion. $230 for a 8GB mp3 player? Come on. And then you have to put the horrid itune software on your computer to transfer files to it... why can't Apple just use drag and drop like everyone else? Its for that reason I tend to go with other companies mp3 players. I have a little 2GB sandisk sansa right now and I'm loving it. Also if you want a touch screen mp3 player, I know Creative Labs and Samsung makes one.
However I'm sure you'll love it if your into Ipods.

I love my Ipod Touch. As I said in another thread its full of cool little features. do I hate Itunes, I hate it with a passion. I agree why not drag and drop like other MP3?
But once you get past it, its really a cool little gadget.
I don't have too much music. Barely 2GB so the 8GB is fine for me. ( I got it as a present from my Sister).
I use the Touch as my PDA. Contacts, Calendar, Notes, etc... With the added feature of the MP3 player.
Battery life is pretty good. when you are web browsing and playing MP3's at the same time.
I have noticed that if I leave the Wifi enabled and change locations, Battery will drains faster as its trying to connect to Wifi networks it detects along the way. So when moving around its better to switch off the Wifi.
You can download a bunch of software form the App Store. There's also quite as selection that's free. Games such as iGolf and iBowl are really fun. You use the touch like a golf club or bowling ball. and the games use the accelerometer inside the touch to calculate speed, angle, etc...
If you are looking for more than an MP3 player and don't really need 120GB of space then yes its a good buy.
If you want it just for the music and want more space, then there are other less expensive products out there.

Ok now I need some advice. So this past summer my sister gave me her old 2nd gen nano. It's white and I hate the color but I'm grateful to have it. Anyhoo my friends dad works for apple so my he said he could getme a 8g touch for $170. I think that's a good deal. And I'm paying for it with my hard earned money from working and my mom said I can't buy it. It's my damn money!

I know I got an ipod and I like it it's just it's kinda old and ugly lookin and can't hold battery life. I know I may sound rude but the thing dosen't even work that well. I'de keep the nano as a backup I just think that I should be able to buy what I like if it's within my spending limits. I can make 170 in a weekend of working. It's my hard earned money, I put half in the bank, and some in a xmas fund for gifts. I think the rest can be pocket money so why can't I spend it?

Do TOuch's have monthly fees? I would assume they would for the internet usage....
That might be one reason.

As long as you don't have to type in a network access code, you're internet is free.

When I got my Touch, I sold my 2nd gen 8gb nano to my friend. He recently got a Touch. He keeps the nano for school and uses the Touch for everything else as he does'nt want it to get stolen. Only reason I sold it to him was because I needed the money.
I do the same thing you do with my money. My parents never cared what I bought as long as I always put half of what I earned in the bank. I'm 18 now and I have to be a little tighter with my money because of school, but I don't see why you can't buy a Touch unless she's planning on getting it for you as a Christmas present.

Ah nope no monthly fees, for the Touch, those only apply for the Iphone.
The Touch is a stand-alone device no service of any kind required.
All you need is a Wi-Fi hot spot such as Starbucks or the like to browse the internet.
Maybe if you ask her why she doesn't want you to get it, you can come to an arrangement.
