Cats and TFs, what should I worry about?

My sister lives with me and she is getting a cat this weekend. I was just wondering if there are any horror stories that I should be warned about regarding having cats in the house with Transformers.

I have lived with cats in the house before, but that was prior to me beginning to collect my figures. I have heard about the occasional pounce on the shelf and knocking some stuff down, so I do plan to keep my bedroom door shut to prevent that.

It's a neutered male, btw. So is there a chance it may still spray at all? He'll be all alone for now, but my sister has mentioned she would like to get another one soon too.

My cat is neutered and he does'nt spray anymore since that.

As long as you keep the shelves away from any areas that he could easily jump to them from then you'll be fine. My cat never enters my room unless I'm there and anything he can jump up on has nothing valuable on it.

Keep your door closed and you'll be fine.

He may want to play with some of your stuff, so as said, just keep it where he won’t get to it. If he’s neutered you should be perfectly fine on anything else.

I have 5 cats. The only danger for me is them jumping on to the shelves knocking some figures down. If I leave a small figure out, they might chew on it but I don't worry about my figures at all. If they do jump on the shelf, DO NOT scare them off. That will do more damage. Just quietly walk up to it and gently pick him up.

If you take pics of the figures, this might happen too.

With my cat, she'll ocassionally knock a few over, and sometimes rub on them. Chewing is an issue, but that can be taken care by commercial spray that makes objects taste bad.

Okay, I think I've got the best situation.

Don't flip out or anything, okay? I mean, I'm just putting this out there... just for consideration... Left-field alternative, if you will...

...

Kill your sister. Problem solved!

My cat used to use my toys as a ploy to get my attention and/or to prove he was mad at me for ignoring him. He'd climb up onto my computer desk and take pot-shots at my Masterpiece Megatron. He succeeded in sending him tumbling off his lofty perch ONE time, and got a whopping shot of The Purple Can of Doom (3M compressed air can) and a real yelling at! He assassinated my beloved G1 Thundercracker and that was the last straw! I gave him a royal hollering and about 3 hrs of completely being ignored. Since then, he has never bothered my toys.

He's smart and figured out my collection is important to me and to touch them equals audio death and a nice shot of compressed air to his behind! Even when one is placed in his line of sight, he sniffs it and runs away!

keep your TFs away from the cats! i have experienced this and i am sure others have as well, my dumb ass cat jumped on my desk which is covered in TFs. alternators ricochet fell three feet, and five others fell, thank god only minor injuries were caused. a broken gun peg hole. still works kind of :? :? :? :? but i trained my cat not to jump on any thing but to jump on my bed to sleep. my cat likes to sleep in my room.

Watch your comics though (if you have them). Even if they don't spray, cats will pee on things if they deem them comfy. Stacks of comics, notebooks, sketchbooks, linens, etc. will apparently do if they're too lazy to walk to the litter box.

That's the best solution to almost any problem though.

There's two cats in my house now, and when I was a kid, my parents had 5. I've never had any trouble. Occasionally one will jump up onto a shelf or my desk and knock something over, but that usually startles the cat into jumping down. Also, I've noticed that since my shelves are fairly crowded, the cats seem to assume there isn't room and don't bother jumping up there. Someone earlier mentioned their cat chewed on some figures. I've never had this problem at all. Cats are not big chewers (dogs are!) and tend to only bat/claw/play with things that move when swatted. Most TFs won't do much more than fall over, and that's not enough to keep a cat's attention.

All in all, I'd say you have very little to fear. When I was a kid, my sister and I even involved one of the cats in our games. Apparently the depths of Cybertron were home to many strange creatures. That cat had no interest in TFs at all, just sniffed them and walked away.

Really the only thing you're going to have to worry about is cat fur. Whatever your dusting regiment is right now, I'd consider doubling it. Cat fur gets EVERYWHERE.

just don't let the cat near your tfs. Mine always knocks them down when she climes on my shelf.

Oh you better wear thick cloths from now on as I had to baby sit a cat once and it keep climbing on me so it could rub it's face on my head and tickle me with its tail.

Keep some canned air around for both the aforementioned cat butt poofing and TF cat fur dusting purposes.
