Anyone have a recommendation? I've come across freebie ones around the web, but thought I'd try here first.

I'm not an audio expert but for simple stuff I use Audacity, which is free.

I know a guy who mixed his band's music on that so I suppose you can make complex files on that.

As above. Audacity. Very good piece of kit, works very well, easy, effective, go for it.

I also like Goldwave.
