Had a D&D thread awhile back, I think it was lost when the boards got screwy.

I play once a week, got a level 8(only 1000xp from 9) Swashbuckler that I'm currently using.

I'm hoping to either have him get killed off, or the campaign to end that way I can bring in the character I've been currently working on. A lvl10 (7Druid/3Ranger) Minotaur(sub-race, not as powerful, ended up getting my DM to agree to a Tauren-esque race of bull-folk)

Current campaign we're doing is we're in the underdark trying to destroy a flying ship made of bones for some Drow, of course the ship is owned by a lich who ended up having it stolen from him by some drow.

So it's up to us, to get it back for him, then destroy it and him for the drow. Of course being a pirate, I'm gonna screw everyone over and steal the ship for myself.

ah snaps. i'm running a gestalted(our current dm loves gestalting) human ninja/ranger with a swindlespitter (mm3) animal companion. my psion/psychic warrior died when the 1st "boss fight" crit'd for like 96, but thanks to forced share pain, he died too.

I play about once a week, we use 3rd edition rules and since our group is small I play two characters: A 8th level monk variant and a 7th level chaos mage/1st level cleric.

I played a sorcerer once and I have to say: playing a chaos mage is much more fun.

When I get bored I sometimes look around the DnD wiki and even make a few things for their home brewed section.

http://www.intrafin.be/Roleplay_Games/M ... _Mage.html

It's also in a book called encyclopedia arcane, chaos magic.

the rules for a chaos mage are very different from any other mage, trading set spells and spells for day for assembling spells on the fly and receiving normal or subdual damage depending on how high the casting DC is. Still, the effects are worth it, my chaos mage can cast a spell that can deal 7d8 damage with a low DC of 1 (he gets a +13 on all casting rolls from his level and wisdom mod). I love throwing fireballs that only effect enemies. (seriously, the class is FUN)

Name_Violation wrote:what monk variant?

I took the chaos mage prestige class chaotic fist and turned it into a base class. It's the monk class with most of the chaotic fist abilities.

ah mongoose...

not a fan of non wtc publishing. most of the other people i play with are.

mongoose is too broken for my taste, and i'm a munchkin power gaming rules lawyer!

to each their own though. as long as you're having fun, thats all that matters.

perhaps, but I love the idea of a chaos mage. I also love how wizards hate chaos mages because of their differences. I've had to kill three wizards who disrespected me.

Played D&D a few times in my last year of undergrad and loved it.

I wish I'd gotten into it when I was a teenager and had more time.

It is too late for me now. :(

its never too late. i didn't start till i was 22. my buddy is 30 and just started 8 months ago

the newest stuff (4th ed)isn't for me perosnally, i till like 3rd ed. find a group and try it.

honestly we use it more as an excuse to hang out. its a bunch of fun and laughs. we don't really care if we accomplish much. as long as we're having fun, it doesn't matter if we're goofin off. most of the people we play with started because we looked like we were having way too much fun, and found out its more of a social group than playing mmorpg's. at least in dnd you can make the d-bag in the group go away.

Well last week we almost completed the campaign trying to locate a flying bone ship for a Lich.

I'm kinda underwhelmed by how it's going, granted my pirate was able to get a gnomish-made flintlock rifle.

So now I have a pistol that ends up doing 1d10 and has a x3 critical.

Which is awesome.

But we're almost through, finding that the ship was taken by the gnomes.

So we're going to bust in, take the ship, then go and **** up the Lich.

Which sucks only because the Lich in the main campaign was supposed to be all big and bad, but we're gonna be able to drop him with just 4-5 people.

if the lich is ran right, it should be able to take out atleast 2 group members, if not all of them.

the best thing to do is nail him to the wall in an antimagic field.
or take his phallacery and make him your puppet. liches are cowards afraid of dying.

if you just kill him he'll come back, seeking revenge. and revenge is a dish best served 3 times...

Well, our DM popped an idea onto us, since most of the grouphas never played before, after looking at the character sheets he noticed some screwy stuff.

So he decided we'll put those characters aside for now and start fresh, that way everyone can level up together and get on the same page and know exactly what they're doing.

We picked random races and classes out of a bowl that way we aren't in our comfort zone when it comes to the role playing part.

I was fortunate enough to pick a gnome fighter who happens to be lawful evil.

I'm gonna have a blast of miniature fury with this guy.

on a side note, I ordered a bunch of the star wars d20 books and am looking to create a campaign for the same group, that way it's not always the fantasy setting and to give a go at DMing myself.

We did something like that once.

We picked our races and all our ability scores started at 6, our DM told us a story and whatever we chose we did during the course of it gave us our alignment and additions to our ability scores.

my guy worked with donkeys on a farm so he got +2 to wisdom from dealing with the stubbornness of the creatures, when my character was in charge of punishing a girl for breaking a window he made her somersault through town for his amusement, which made me chaotic neutral. just some examples.
