The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever.

The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.

The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin.

Eddie Murphy I can see, think about Buddy Love in the Nutty Professor, now think about him being taken to a Joker type of dark for the Dark Knight.

Eddie Murphy would work, not the current "kid friendly, everyone-loves-fat-suits" Eddie Murphy, but Eddie Murphy could work.

Shia LeBouf is just @#$%ing retarded. Honestly, he's been in every @#$%ing movie for the last 3 years. Enough, please.

Just get whatever emo-kid they were going to use to star in "The Graysons" god-awful show.

Hmm... Eddie Murphy as the ridder... :-?
I could live with that, but only if they go with the Animated series-style "I'm smarter than you" riddler over the giggling madman from the 60's (or Jim Carrey, if you prefer the more modern analogue). The current series is thriving on being dark and adding any outright camp or humor will only hurt it (come to think of ti, that's what happened to the last set of Batman movies, isn't it?).

While I am vehemently opposed to them adding a Robin to the series, I can't for the life of me think of a good reason why. Seriously. Someone want to help me here?

The resemblance is uncanny. It would fit perfectly in Nolan's darker movie style.

Seriously.... You're believing The Sun?! Have you taken one too many shots to the head? Do you personally think Nolan would choose those actors?

Besides, Nolan has already said that no sidekick will ever appear in his movies. Period.

I agree with the last 2 comments. I don't believe either Eddie Murphy or the Beef will be in the next Batman.

And I can see Manson working as the Riddler. It would require a lot of make-up though. You know, to make him look human for when he's just plain Edward Nigma, game maker. The Riddler was one of my favourites from the Batman Animated series. I glad he'll finally get justice.

"What is heavy forwards and not backwards?"

"When is a door not a door?"

"Why is six afraid of seven?"

"The more you take away, the larger it grows. What is it?"

"Tear one off and scratch my head, what once was red is black instead. What am I?"

Totally fake. Nolan has said there wouldn't be any Robin while he's around. And Eddie Murphy? You have to be kidding me.

I could see Manson playing the Riddler but personally, I'm for Johnny Depp.

Actually, I disagree with LeBouf as Robin but for a different reason. I don't want to see Robin at all. I want to see Cassandra Cain Batgirl instead. The zeitgeist is right for it and it would be great exposure for a good character the average guy has never heard of.

Did I just seriously see someone entertain the idea of Manson as The Riddler? Eww. I'm not entirely unhappy with the idea of David Tennant, though if I had my way it'd be John Malkovich doing it in a whole new take on it, an older mafia boss who's decided to take down the Batman as a game, to cap off a career that's gotten boring for him. That, or sod the Riddler and continue the Joker idea through Harley Quinn.

Come, come lads. These Americans are ignorant of the Sun's sensationalist ways, it's not their fault that they aren't used to it like we are.

Sorry, but I don't think Marilyn Manson would make a good Riddler. The guy can't even make a good album so how can he be expected to be a decent actor? I don't know if he's even been in any films and if he has he did'nt make a good enough of an impression for me to remember him.

As someone else said in this thread, David Tennant would be a good if not perfect Riddler. One of the first roles he played as was a psycopath and that's what got him famous. Now that he won't be the Doctor after the 4 specials this year, it makes me wonder if Riddler could be one of his roles.

I'm very happy to hear the Eddie Murphy won't be in this film. I though Batman was about to go down hill for a moment.

Party Monster, go watch! :P

Supposedly, Manson's new album is going to be back to the good stuff. Which, I am inclined to believe him since Wes freaking Borland and Twiggy Ramirez are in his band.

Yeah I just heard about it last night on Entertainment Tonight. I couldn' believe it.

Shia LeBouf is just @#$%ing retarded. Honestly, he's been in every @#$%ing movie for the last 3 years. Enough, please.

I agree! But did you know that Robin gets killed in the comics? Maybe we would see LeBouf get blown up or something.

Only Jason Todd (who fecking deserved it) was killed. Dick Grayson became Nightwing, while Tim Drake got his own comic series and Stephanie Brown gave me some very interesing personal time.

Yeah, now we are going to start discussing tabloid news 'journalism' here.

Anyway, no thanks on Murphy as the Riddler, even if it were a reputable source. I can't think of a movie that he did without the comedy edge driving it, and this series is not meant to have that kind of comedy in it. We are not supposed to be laughing at this Batman.

Shia as Robin. I wouldn't like that move either.

I'd rather see the Batgirl/woman idea come to fruition, or Nightwing, but I suppose that a team up movie is what the Justice League movie is for.

Now if Nolan veered off and did Brave and the Bold, Green Lantern, or Green Arrow would be awesome allies, or the Atom.

Brian Warner would be an awesome Riddler.

Christian Bale said that he would not do a movie with any Robin in it ever. So that should end it.

All this news is false, superherohype did an article about this a few days ago, non of it is legit.

And what's everybody's beef with the "beouf"? The dude's not a bad actor, plus he's not even being considered.

You're right, he's not bad - he's f*cking awful. He's like a young Luca Brazi on whatever the opposite of speed is.

Nolan didn't even say the riddler was going to be the villain. Personally, I'd prefer to see Deathstroke, Bane, Ivy, Black Mask, or Talia.

To each their own, but please don't act like a jerk when presenting your opinions. And secondly, Nolan doesn't want Robin in his franchise. So this falsey is even more false.
