What is the song "Disturbia" about?

Okay...

I've listened to it...

I've wiki'd it...

I've Googled it...

And I still have no idea what Rihanna is talking about. "You're in the city of wonder"? "I feel like a monster"? She's obviously suffering some sort of mental delusion, but I've read others theories ranging from living in hell to living married. Anyhow, here are the lyrics:

What's wrong with me?
Why do I feel like this?
I'm going crazy now

No more gas, in the red, can't even get it started
Nothing heard, nothing said, can't even speak about it
On my life, on my head, don't wanna think about it
Feels like I'm going insane, yeah

It's a thief in the night to come and grab you
It can creep up inside you and consume you
A disease of the mind, it can control you
It's too close for comfort

Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder
Ain't gon' play nice, watch out you might just go under
Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is light
Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?
Disturbia, ain't used to what you like
Disturbia, disturbia

Faded pictures on the wall, it's like they talking to me
Disconnecting on calls, the phone don't even ring
I gotta get out or figure this sh** out
It's too close for comfort, oh

It's a thief in the night to come and grab you
It can creep up inside you and consume you
A disease of the mind it can control you
I feel like a monster, oh

Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder
Ain't gon' play nice, watch out you might just go under
Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is light
Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?
Disturbia, ain't used to what you like
Disturbia, disturbia, disturbia

Release me from this curse I'm in
Trying to maintain but I'm struggling
If you can't go-o-o
I think I'm gonna ah, ah, ah, ah

Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder
Ain't gon' play nice, watch out you might just go under
Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Disturbia, it's like the darkness is light
Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?
Disturbia, ain't used to what you like
Disturbia, disturbia

Let's hear your theories.

She heard about the movie with Shia LeBouef and thought the word was cool. I can't stand here, she can only sing one note and talks around it.

I listened to the song 3 times and have no frikkin clue what it's about even after reading the lyrics. I wish musicians would leave the dark lyrics to metal artists.

Probably isn't about anything, you'd be surprised how many songs pick words for rhythm and nothing else, especially when you're a studio songwriter who's got a quota to meet.

I'd try and answer that question, but until I saw the title, I always thought she was saying 'Scurvy Love'.

So....uhm....Pirates?

They're right. There's a huge difference between metalheads and emos. They're not even on the same field. I should know since I am a metalhead.

Since when does no one like metal? That's news to me. Metal has almost 40 different sub genres and I'm willing to bet you listen to something that's within the metal range so if what you say is true then you must be emo.

I just noticed the ad at the top of this page has a picture of Rihanna and says her IQ is 125. What a coincidence.

I think they are using the Metric system if her IQ is 125.

I dunno, when has she ever released a song that's flopped? Wouldn't surprise me if she was pretty savvy and smart.

Out of all Rihanna's material, this is the only song that I like and own, and that's really only because it's an enjoyable song to listen to, in my opinion. I like the beats, rhythm, and the sound of her voice alongside the other sound effects heard on the track.

Now, as for what I think she is singing about... I've never seen the movie 'Disturbia' itself - I infer my own idea on what 'disturbia' is, and what it means to me is paranoia. From the lyrics of her song (that I have to admit I sing along to - and it's 'gas in the /rig/ :> ), I gather disturbia to be a perpetual, ever-escalating state of paranoia that our singer here is doing what she can to combat.
