my son got very sick from medication

My son had some problems with foot fungus and the creams were not working. The doctor decided to put him on some pills. They had warnings but they say those problems are very rare. 2 weeks after he took them we went back to the doctor and it was not gone yet so he refilled them. a couple of days later my son woke up in the middle of the night with what I thought was the stomach flu. I put him back to bed and went to bed myself. When I checked on him he told me he was up all night throwing up and in a lot of pain. I still thought it was the flu but I had my suspicions about the pills. By lunch when he was weak dizzy still throwing up and still in a lot of pain both in his stomach and his back. I took him into the ER. It was not the flu but the antifungal pills. They caused a raging case of pancreatitis and nearly shut down his kidneys. He was in the hospital for a few days but is home now. He needs to go back for more blood work to make sure his pancreas recovers and there is no damage. If nothing else Jack has had a first hand lesson on how dangerous popping pills can be. He said he knows kids who go to pill parties every weekend. I got a chance to point out that if that had happened out of the blue he would have been sent to a bigger hospital where painful invasive testing would have been done to find out why his pancreas and kidneys were not working right.
What is scary is I sort of knew this couple. They were a friend of a friend that we saw at summer BBQ's. One day she is there by herself and while talking she said her husband died a week ago suddenly. She woke up and he was dead in bed next to her. He was pretty young early 30's maybe. They had no idea how he died so they were going to do an autoposy to find out. I asked the friend one day when I saw her a few months later. She said that he had a blood clot so he was on blood thinners and got a headache that night he died so he took some leftover prescription painkillers. The blood thinner reacted with the pain killer and killed him. That scares me when I think about the pain killers I keep around from surgery, dental work etc just in case I get a bad headache or whatever.
