I wasn't sure if this should go in General or Xperts but other people aren't doing specifically TF related stuff so I'll try it here.
If someone is rude and insulting in a thread, how should the 'victim' deal with it?

Send them a PM first and tell them to stop piking on ya. Maybe it's all a misunderstanding.
And if at doesn't work either report them, or PM Cyber Bishop or Muffin, and they will have a few words for them.

Thanks. When you say 'report them' how does that differ from PM-ing the two you mentioned? I saw someone say 'hit the report button' on another thread a while back but I haven't noticed one.

I actually don't know if there is a difference. Maybe the report button sends a response to all mods? Where as PM-ing would only send it to the specific moderator.

The report button flags the post in the moderator control panel, where any of us on the staff can see it and deal with it. However, I would still advise contact TheMuffin or Cyber Bishop, as it's usually a better way to get a direct response, due to many members of staff only having limited fields of jurisdiction, like myself.
But the first thing to do before contacting any staff member would be to politely get in touch with the offending party via PM and try to settle it that way.
