I am sure that many before me have been wondering, although after a quick search I didn't find any thread about it at "Ask the Xperts"...
What the f*** is Soundwave's alt mode in Cybertron that we can see in the first episode of G1 series??????
If someone watches carefully will notice that Soundwave transforms and there is an identical item with his alt mode outside Autobots' headquarter.But...what is this item?Any ideas?

I always thought he turned into a lamppost.

A lamppost?It's a bit weird,isn't it?
I mean we've never seen something similar before...
TFs usually transform into vehicles, electronic devices or things like that and not a simple electric lamp.
Although,you may be right afterall.
Any other opinions?

lamp post or power conduit. he is an espionage expert, so had a common item mode to blend in.

on a side note its been said the d-cons were the military bots, while the autobots were consumer goods. so is soundwave an ex-autobot? or is his alt an exception due to his espionaging?
in the same note does that make warpath an ex con?

It's also been referred to as a communications tower, sort of like a radio transmitter, I suppose. It's a pretty good alt mode for an intelligence officer, though, given how completely innocuous and static it is.

:BOT: That's what I thought as well.

Or a telephone pole. :CON:

I've always thought of it as a lamppost/information conduit. Lighting the accessway while providing GPS and condition updates.

I think that notion is more general...I don't think it rigidly means that ANY non-military bot was automatically an autobot and vice verse...I think that's just the way it went for the most part...

That's the impression I'VE always had about his original alt-mode...

that and since its established that some TFs are older than others, more martial alt modes would be more common among younger autobots, which holds pretty well true.

You obviously mean this:

http://www.unicron.us/tf2007/toypix/tit ... ndwave.htm

They mention that Soundwave's Cybertron alt mode is a cybertronian road scanning device. However not even they are 100% sure about that.
Who knows? We may never find out the exact truth......

And by the way...Welcome to Seibertron!!!

that might be a quick disguise for the moment to avoid being seen. I think it is sound related. :APPLAUSE:

I've always thought he transformed into a lamp post in the episode, which sounds like a really silly alt. mode, unless you consider that perhaps THAT early in the G1 series, maybe they hadn't yet decided to assign only 1 alt. mode per Transformer.

Someone like Soundwave surely wouldn't have such a relatively useless alt. mode, if that were the only one he was meant to have.
