Inauguration of President Barack Obama

Today is the day that I've been patiently waiting several years for. I have followed Obama's career since I moved to Chicago back in 2002. I proudly voted for him to the Illionois senator and was very intrigued by this man, his speaking capabilities and ultimately his vision.
Today, we are seeing history happen live. It is one of the most monumental days in the history of this country, and definitely in my lifetime. Perhaps today will bring about a change in our sense of pride. If nothing else, at the very least, today marks the ending of one chapter in this country's history and the beginning of a new exciting chapter.
Political topics are kind of taboo here in General Discussion. I don't want to see this thread turn into a political discussion. I just want this thread to be here for the people like myself who are excited about this day.
We should be proud, my fellow Seibertronians.

On that note, I'm going to go watch it happen.

I echo your sentiments of this being a new dawn for USA and as a result all the free world, and without this turning into a flame war about the good and bad of certain politcians I only wish to say 3 words to sum up my feelings

From my desk at the office of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, watching the webcast of the Inauguration on CBC.ca I would like to extend my personal thoughts and well wishes to our Americans friends on this historic day.
Who would have thought a few years ago when Matt Santos took the oath of office on The West Wing that we would be seeing the man he was based on being elevated to the Presidency.
Congrats to all Americans on this day, regardless of your political views.

I am currently watching the inaugaration on MSNBC.com and I can see the crowds on the Mall - whoa. I also remember a Washington Post article saying that at least one Metro Station is closed due to the crowds and security. Hence why I'm not trying to get into DC today.
It should probably be noted that yesterday was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day here in the US as well. It's most likely a coincidence dependent on how the calendar fell this year, but still, puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

A Transformer site overly involved in politics.
Pick one or the other not both for this site.

Just as a diver has to come up to the surface, every so often, one has to peek his head out into reality at some point.
This is an historic occassion; it's worth discussing, even on a Transformers site.

I'd hardly call a thread that is in response to something happening in the world "Overly Involved." I think the last real political thread was after the election.
I'm at school and can't watch the proceedings sadly enough, so I'll have to watch the repeats later tonight.

Time for some pragmatic realism.
As a citizen of the supposed 'free world' (I'm Dutch), I'd say it would be best if we judge Obama's presidency when he has served his first term.
To say that his inauguration will be a 'new dawn' for the entire free world is just getting ahead of things, I for one will not be setting my expectations too high.
On the other hand though, I wish him the best of luck and I do hope he can live up to the hype.
I hope he and the people around him will be able to get stuff back on the right track, for your sake but also for that of the rest of us.

I agree 100%.
We will see what happens now.
I wish him the best in his new position.

I have a hard time feeling comfortable with his election when he thinks the Constitution is fundamentally flawed (not my words, his own on multiple occasions.)
For the sake of our nation I hope he is successful... but if he believes what he says, our very basis of founding is about to be assaulted by the man in charge of supporting and defending that very document.

I missed the swearing in - the feed from MSNBC decided to freeze up at that very point.

You gotta wonder though, whose happier - the one going in or the one leaving?

You know the Constitution was designed that way, right? It was written incomplete. That's why it's been amended (Amendment = a change) 27 times to date. Because there's so much that was left out, we had to change it that many times just to keep our country from tearing itself apart.

His address was inspiring.
This country should celebrate every new presidency. Every peaceful transition of power is something that the rest of the world respects or aspires to.
Whether or not you personally voted for him, every American should hope for the success of a president as that measure is reflective of the success of a country.

Yet, the fact that in 200+ years it's only been amended that many times, compared the the
thousands of amendments in state constitutions (or those that have been completely rewritten), says something about it.

I predict that he will be a very mediocre to bad president who will be made to look like a saint by the media, who's messes will have to be cleaned up by the next guy in office who will get the blame for the whole thing.
The guy has done nothing, most of his time as a senator was spent trying to become President.
Everything I've heard about this guy leads me to believe that he'll put a band aid on a problem that requires serious surgery.

Wait, are you talking about George W. Bush? Because he wasn't a Senator.

I think this historic day supercedes Seibertron.com and Transformers. If you don't like that I enjoy acknowledging real world events on my website, there are plenty of other Transformers related sites that you can visit.

The new White House website has been launched as well today. I'm very impressed. It looks nice and clean ... very web 2.0.
