I don't know much about Iron Man; what's the thing on his chest (not the vest).

It's his artificial heart.

from wiki but it's true

While on a visit to Vietnam (later updated to the Gulf War) to see how his new mini-transistors could assist the American war effort, Stark was caught in a booby trap. Captured by a Vietnamese warlord named Wong Chu, and dying from a piece of shrapnel lodged in his heart from the booby trap, Stark was pressed into building weapons for Wong Chu, along with a fellow prisoner, the famed physicist Yin Sen (later called Ho Yinsen). However, Stark and Yin Sen used the workshop to secretly design and construct a suit of powered armor — an iron exoskeleton that gives Stark tremendous strength as well as other abilities — that will not only keep Stark's heart beating, but also allow him to escape.

Wasn't the device in his chest just supposed to keep the shrapnel from moving any further into his heart?

Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for Stark.

meh. Posted it the other week in the Iron Man MKI armour thread (thought it might be a good idea to keep the IM stuff in one thread, now we have three :P ) and as I said there, not a fan of the guy but he's got the look of Stark!

AS long as they don't bring SHIELD and Nick Fury into it... it should be good.

Nick is supposed to be getting his own movie. Samuel L. Jackson, in return for having Ultimate Nick designed after him, basically bought the rights for the role of Fury, should they ever make a movie.

Marvel's tight like that.

They did make a Nick Fury movie.

It starred David Hasselhoff.

No more shall be said of it.

when i first heard that downey was going to play iron man, i must admit i was less than thrilled. i just hadn't been impressed with what i'd seen of his work.

then i saw kiss kiss bang bang a few days ago. admittedly his role there is nothing whatsoever like iron man, but it went a long way in convincing me that the guy is a damn good actor. now i'm excited, and this pic only makes me more so.

Except that it was penned by David S. Goyer, who wrote Batman Begins and other comic book related movies.

I was worried at first, but I think that they did a good job choosing the person for the part.

On a side note, does anyone know if this is going to be based on the regular comic continuity or the Ultimate?

IIRC it also starred Gary Chalk (BW and BM Opitmus Primal).

Kind of young, but he still screams out "HEY! LOOKIT! I'M TONY STARK! I'M GOING TO PISS OFF SPIDER-MAN AND CAPTAIN AMERICA, JUST BECAUSE I CAN! ALSO, I SOMETIMES CONFUSE MYSELF WITH BATMAN!"

Uh...yeah.

Anyone know any details of the story? Or is this just a live-action version of the recent animated movie?

More or less. It's probably going to be closer to the comics, though.

So, unfortunately, no evil naked asian chick.
